2020 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 170-Inch 3500XD CustomOver the past ten years, the luxury camper van market has exploded. There are countless companies that have sprung up doing overland conversions and the quality and scope of the upgrades varies significantly. Some vans are simple Econoline-based examples with some built in cupboards and a place for an air mattress, while others work with the gold standard - Mercedess Sprinter van, building a true home away from home. This 2020 Sprinter 170-Inch 3500XD built by Outside Van of Portland Oregon is the latter. With the conversion alone costing nearly $160,000, to replicate this van would cost in excess of $230,000.Finished in Blue Gray, this Sprinters exterior has the purposeful, off-road look that you want from a high-end overland rig, sitting up on a an Agile Rip Kit that features front coilovers with Fox shocks and heavy duty IFP rear shocks, that are complimented by a set of knobby BFGoodrich K02 Tires. When paired with four wheel drive, a dually rear axle and ARB air compressor, this van is ready to go nearly anywhere, without concern for the terrain. On the roof sits a 144 Safari rack which has a Fiamma 13-foot awning connected which can be unfurled when you get to camp. Additional Rigid exterior lighting has been fitted, as has a 90w solar panel on the roof that helps feed the 3-stage power system (3 Stage 1 lithium 100Ah batteries w/2000W Magnum inverter) while youre parked. But when it comes to an overlanding rig, its the interior that truly separates a great build from an exceptional one. This build started by lining the van with 3M Thinsulate insulation and sound deadening before covering the walls in Sileather - an easy to clean silicon material that looks and feels like leather- before anything else was installed. A Marine grade custom plywood floor was laid down, and a 3-panel bed system with 2x4 folding foam mattresses was installed that sleeps up to four adults. Outside Vans then built out a custom galley kitchen with Corian Glacier white counter tops, a Moen sink and faucet, slide-out butchers block, an Isotherm fridge, custom fit microwave and single-burner induction stove. Feeding the sink is a 25 gallon fresh water system that leads to a grey water tank - both of which are also connected to the fully enclosed aluminum shower with a ceiling vent fan. One of the largest challenges in these sorts of vans is interior heat management when sleeping but that shouldnt be a concern with this example. Controlled through a SmarTemp control panel, an Espar hydronic Plus Evo 40 heating system fits the van with 12,000 BTU of forced air heating, while dual Maxxair 10-speed roof vents help to vent out the cabin when it starts getting too hot. To ensure that charging is always at hand, five 110V outlets are installed, as are five USB chargers throughout the cabin.Powering the van is Mercedess rock solid 3.0-liter turbodiesel V6 that produces 188 horsepower and 325 lb-ft of torque. The engine remains stock, but a second alternator has been installed with a 280XP high-amp alternator which optimizes charging systems while the engine is running and ensures that your power stores are always full when you get to camp. The engine sends power through a 7-speed automatic to both axles. A swing out trailer hitch, paired with the dually rear axle means an 8,500 lb towing capacity, making this a perfect van for an off road motorcycle or side-by-side weekend. The list of modifications on this van is even more extensive than stated here, and every aspect has been carried out with the best quality parts and to an exceptionally high standard. The cost and time to build an overlanding van to these specifications is significant, and this example remains in essentially as-new condition, and is ready to go on an adventure as soon as you take delivery.Key Features * Over $230,000 to Replicate * Built by Outside Van in Portland, OR * Marine grade -Inch custom plywood floor * 3M Thinsulate insulation
