"2015 Chevrolet Camaro 2SS Coupe
Even though the Camaro was discontinued in 2002 at the end of its fourth generation, it wasn't long before a concept model for a new generation of Camaro was back in development. In early 2005, sketches and models were in progress for the next generation of Camaro. By 2006, a finished clay model of the new Camaro was available to the public. Between 2006 and 2008, several test models were created for a potential new Camaro. These test models were initially hidden from the public until early 2008, when Chevrolet announced that the models were no longer camouflaged. As a result, several images of the new Camaro were released in 2008. The 2015 model year was to be the last year of the 5th Gen Camaro. After its makeover in 2014, the 2015 model year saw very few changes. A new color called Blue Velvet Metallic was added, and an upgraded navigation system became available on most trims. 2015 mainly set the stage for the next generation of Camaro.
A 2015 version of the Camaro graces our halls of Classic Auto Mall. This one announces on its badging that it bears the iconic SS designation which means that in stock form it was capable of putting out 420hp, however, our consignor wasn't satisfied with a ""mere"" number and added a host of go fast goodies to far exceed the factory rating. So much so that a parachute has been added to the back end to bring this retro modern skate to a whoah! This 75,667 title verified actual mile SS is laying down some seriously asphalt shredding numbers at the rear tires and is fully poised to make Mustangs and Challengers cower in fear.
Note: Due to modifications of the emissions control devices installed by the manufacturer, please check your local, state, and federal laws to determine if this vehicle is applicable for use on public highways in your area
Exterior
Even with theclocked original miles, this beauty is bathed in sinister black and carries the same menacing and respect inducing chiseled looks as Darth Vader. Adding more bling is the satin black louvered heat extractor hood, black rocker skirts, deeply tinted glass and the black low profile rear spoiler. This car looks great from the front with its bad ass pointy front grille design to the deep inset single headlights, integrated bumper, integrated chin splitter, and don't forget the chrome highlighted black bowtie leading the way. Steel panels are all nice and straight and mind their gaps very well but we note scuffs, breaks and missing pieces of the lower front bumper cover along with a few dings in the steel. Camaro badging on each of the fender's float above the skinny 18-inch Weld Race Star wheels up front with their glossy black finish and in the back, more of the same, but now in 15-inch format for the rear and wider...much wider. Fat and skinny you say? How about 28x6.00 up front andwide wide wide 28x10.50's in the rear, all courtesy of Mickey Thompson. Looking at the profile the aero design continues with the swept back windshield and RJS parachutehanging off of the back. A racer ready to take on any challengers that come its way.
Interior
A swing of the doors and I feel like I'm viewing the 2015 version of the Millennium Falcon with even the door panels giving me the aero design feel, all integrated and smooth lines here. Turning our attention to the passenger compartment, we can slip in dual sporty racing designed buckets, with smooth black cloth bolsters and ribbed inserts all highlighted by white stitching and white SS stitching on the headrests. No fooling around here as the seats just grab me as I buckle up, get acclimated and get ready to roll. The futuristic Buck Rogers in the 21st century continues with the dash, in particular the instrument cluster which plays on the deep set dual gauge cluster of early days of the Camaro, but takes it a step up by wrapping them with rectangular bezels and a center digital odometer and info display. Seen also is a premium AM/FM/CD audio system with Bluetooth connectivity. In the center a nicely designed console drops down from the dash, and houses a small storage cubby, sport and touring toggles, a leather wrapped shifter and glovebox. A Nitrous Outlet nitrous oxide controller has been added to the console, and as it makes its way past the buckets, it ends abruptly at the 2 plus 2 cloth covered rear seats with a nitrous bottle riding the hump.
Drivetrain
Lifting open the hood we are met with a 6.2 Liter LS V8 that has been tended to and upgraded to far exceed the factory pony count. The block was treated to a Texas Speed & Performance custom grind camshaft, then the heads were given to Advance Induction Ported for polishing and milling to 11-1 compression. On the fuel and air end we have a Rotofab air intake along with a Nitrous Outlet hardline plate kit with ProMod solenoids, and a Winmax nitrous controller & Lingenfelter timing controller. Bolted to the back is a 6L80E 8-speed automatic transmission with a FTI billettriple disc 3,600rpm stall torque converter which sends power back to a 3.42 geared limited slip rear axle.
Undercarriage
Underneath is all clean and green, well not actually...it is clean but is finished in a natural beige color all mixed with black and aluminum with no rust and structurally sound steel. Keeping the wide 28x10.50 rubber planted to the road is an independent coil spring front suspension and in the rear, we see an independent multilink and coil spring suspension. Wilwood power disc brakes with a 15"" conversion are all around for stopping and the exhale is handled by Stainless Works long tube headers feeding 3"" exhaust with no muffler, so you know the neighbor will be woken up at the twist of the key.
Drive-Ability
Like 2 kids taking our new toy out of the wrapper, my partner in crime and I took this car out for a spin and we were not disappointed. Being in good condition, it started right up, and we were off. Obscene amounts of power and the factory shifter is nice, and we went through the gears effortlessly. Loud enough to garnish a MOOO from the neighborhood cows in Morgantown and good handling with the performance suspension, all is in good working condition. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.
Just like a favorite toy this consigner took very good care after playing with it, to put it back in its garage, all buttoned up until the next time to play. Sinister great looks on the outside, and nice plush cloth on the inside, all with futuristic design, and plenty of conveniences. Add in the performance upgrades and we have a very serious contender. Take me to hyperdrive!
