"2008 Ford Mustang Bullitt
Name another movie or TV car that's been reproduced in large numbers in multiple generations, can be driven daily, and retains options not found on the mere mortal Mustangs. The Mustang Bullitt tributes have been produced by Ford in the fourth, fifth and sixth generations meaning you can find a 2001 Bullitt, a 2008-09 Bullitt, and a 2019-20 Bullitt. They can trace their DNA to a single car; a dark green 1968 fastback Mustang used in the film and sold at Mecum in 2020 for 3.7 million dollars.
For consignment, a 2008 Ford Mustang title verified 1,240 actual miles. It's one of 4,377 made in 2008 with Highland Green Paint, another 1,426 were black. We've seen our share of Bullitts here at Classic Auto Mall over the past seven years and sales figures don't lie, these are highly desirable special edition Mustangs and here is one that's barely broken in.
Exterior
If you only take a quick glance, you may mistake this car for a run of the mill 6 cylinder pony and boy, would you be wrong. The '08 model shows some design restraint while still paying tribute to the original 1968 movie car. A black mesh grille is devoid of the iconic chrome pony and is accented by a satin aluminum frame that is a throwback to the 1968 Mustang but also does a splendid job of framing the gap next to the proper Dark Highland Green. Stylized marker lamps here present as amber slashes and wear the car's individual number, 2690 on the right marker. The side steel panels flow nicely with well minded gaps, with quarter window scoops over the fixed rear windows. In the back we find a spoilerless trunk lid and a circular faux gas cap/badge that shows Ford Bullitt in front of a crosshair design flanked by three part tail lights, now larger and flush but still reminiscent of past generations. Dual exhaust tips boldly emerge from the lower bumper and 18-inch argent Bullitt wheels wrapped 235/50ZR18 rubber. We could find no exterior imperfections on this low mileage car.
Interior
Nice simple door panels utilize molded plastic, vented vinyl and a tasteful touch of thin trimming along with power window toggles, power lock switches and some woofers and tweeters, the crosshairs now appearing on the door actuators. Inside, beautiful high backed charcoal leather buckets topped with headrests, all in fantastic condition as are the foldable 2 plus 2 seats in back. A center console runs through the buckets and houses a satin aluminum trim piece that surrounds the machined aluminum shifter ball. As it rises to the dash center, we have the A/C panel along with an AM/FM/CD radio just below the racy red start button. Under the black textured dash cover and among the machine spun aluminum front are two large round deep set gauges, somewhat retro in design and backlit in lavender, with a central gauge cluster, analog with the exception of the digital odometer readouts. Black carpet and a felt headliner all is tight and clean below and above. The trunk has a rubber liner and some added storage pouches attached to the underside of the decklid, all spotless.
Drivetrain
Lifting up the long green hood we see a 4.6L 3 valve V8 in the bay all fitting nicely under the factory installed Bullitt strut tower brace that includes this car's individual number. It is fed air by a factory Ford Racing cold air kit. The bay is showroom clean! More engine calibration gives this engine the capability to produce 315hp while a Tremec 3650 5-speed manual, modified at the factory for quicker more precise shifts is bolted on the back. A Ford 8.8"" with 3.73 TracLoc rear axle is standard fare to put power to the ground. Power disc brakes on all four wheels slow the velocity of this Bullitt.
Undercarriage
If you've ever questioned surface rust, this car will allay your fears. Here's a garaged car with less than 1,500 miles and has surface rust on untreated parts that include the driveshaft, rear axle, and other components. Harmless surface rust happens! The rest of the underside is clean and dry. On board is independent coil spring front suspension, and a 3 link with panhard bar rear suspension. From the engine's manifolds to the Bullitt specific H-pipe and muffler and chrome tips, the underneath looks great.
Drive-Ability
A push of the start button and you have one of the nicest sounding exhaust tones you'll hear, here at Classic Auto Mall. Off to the test loop where it demonstrated nice acceleration, good handling and crisp braking. All working and just a comfy modern interior. As expected with a car with such low mileage, everything we tested functioned as it should. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.
Here's a nicely preserved, practically new example of the Mustang Bullitt. And not to beat a dead horse, but Bullitt Mustangs pass through Classic Auto Mall faster than a .308 through a Daniel Defense. So saddle up, keep your powder dry, and head on over to Morgantown, Pennsylvania. Or simply call our helpful staff!
