"2007 Saturn Sky Convertible
In July 30, 1990, the first Saturn was built, a red 1991 model year Saturn SL2. The first Saturn dealership opened in Memphis, Tennessee. Saturn Corporation was launched as a ""different kind of car company"", and Saturn even had its own unique car models, (although later models shared platforms with other GM vehicles to be more cost effective in the market), and their own dealership network that was separate from the rest of GM. Saturn ended production in October 2009, ended outstanding franchises in October 2010, and ceased operations 25 years after it began.
For consignment, a 2007 Saturn Sky with a title verified 29,221 actual miles. One thing is for sure, very few Skys were used as daily drivers as the cars we've been fortunate enough to represent are mostly low mileage vehicles reserved for weekend jaunts in nice weather. They have emerged as affordable, modern sports cars with well appointed cabins and outstanding handling and looks.
Exterior
One magazine described Sky's as ""not so much maxi Miata as Corvette junior petite"" and the car definitely presents a more Vette vibe than Miata with elongated nose, flush headlights on the corners, and high backed profile. Ours is adorned in Silver Birch paint that's augmented with a red shoulder line pinstripe that wraps the back between flush tail lights. This back view is particularly noteworthy as seat fairings rise from the decklid, (think, Jaguar D-type), and they're positioned between the buttress like sails of the black canvas top and flat rear window. In profile, the front gill harkens to its GM roots and the rounded edge of the doors is unique. Back up front we go where a wide fascia presents slightly aggressively, enhanced further by faux vents on the hood. A steeply raked windshield keeps the whole attitude flowing rearward and 18-inch polished wheels carry 45 series tires. Imperfections include some dings and some curb rash on this otherwise clean and straight example.

Interior
Black plastic surrounds black vinyl on the door panels, contrasting with the glossy black switch plate and chrome pull handle. Tall black leather bucket seats provide dual thrones on the front and are in good shape with the driver's seat showing some compression and patina wrinkling. The sport steering wheel has a number of thumb controls on its face adding to a pair of stalks for more functions, and within the sightline of the tach and speedometer that are visually on par with great sports cars. The center stack is perhaps a bit more pedestrian with familiar climate dials and an AM/FM/CD radio which flows almost seamlessly to the center console, silver painted, and housing a chrome capped short shifter. We note a small crack on the armrest section but the black carpet below is in fine shape. The small trunk is completely finished with gray cloth panels.
Drivetrain
Large, plastic shrouds create a clean presentation of the 2.4 liter 4 cylinder engine. It's fuel injected and mated to a 5-speed manual transmission that sends power to 3.91 gears in back. Like big brother Corvette, power disc brakes are found front and rear.
Undercarriage
Basic and clean driver quality conditions are found underneath and we're happy to report, it's dry under there! We do find surface rust on typical untreated components but no invasive rust anywhere. Double wishbone SLA independent suspension is found front and rear. The single exhaust runs through its original muffler before exiting via an oval tip through the roll pan.
Drive-Ability
We've come to expect a slightly spirited, road hugging experience from the Sky, and this one is no exception. The engaging stick shift is our preference and it's a smooth mover through the gates. It turns out 177 horsepower is more than enough to elicit fun and the fact that everything worked on this car is yet another expected outcome! While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.
You wouldn't know it by looking at the car, but it's almost 20 years old! Saturn/GM scored a home run with this design, and it still looks fresh and we can tell you from first hand experience, it still turns heads wherever it goes. Beach weather is around the corner and if you're looking for a fun weekend cruiser or heck, an exciting new daily driver consider this Saturn! Things are looking up at Classic Auto Mall and it all starts with the Sky.
