THE STORY
Showing just 586 miles on the odometer, this Ford Mustang Saleen Parnelli Jones Edition, VIN 07-0392, is a highly original example of the limited-edition Mustang that Steve Saleen offered as a tribute to legendary race driver Parnelli Jones. A championship race driver himself, Saleen respected Jones' talent and career that included the 1970 Trans-Am championship in a Boss 302 Mustang that was also Grabber Orange. When Jones asked Saleen to build a one-off Boss-like version of the 2007 Saleen Mustang, Saleen took the idea and ran with it to build a limited run of 500 Saleen/Parnelli Jones Editions, also known as Saleen PJs. Each of those Mustangs came in Grabber Orange with limited edition graphics and black ""302"" hockey-stick stripes to resemble Jones' 1970 Trans-Am Mustang. The PJ Editions also included a variety of limited edition elements, like a functional Saleen-design Shaker hood scoop, special front and rear fascias, a rear spoiler, rear window slats and Mini-Lite-inspired 19-inch wheels.
Like all Saleen PJs, this Grabber Orange 2007 Mustang GT delivered to Saleen's Irvine, California, facility where it was stripped and rebuilt to Saleen specifications. Unlike standard Saleen Mustangs, the PJ Edition is powered by a hand-built 302 CI modular 3-valve engine that produces 400 HP and 390 lb-ft of torque, thanks to a more efficient induction system, ported heads, performance camshafts, PowerFlash calibration and 2.5-inch exhaust. The engine's bottom end is also strengthened with forged aluminum pistons, a forged steel crankshaft and forged connecting rods. Saleen's Racecraft suspension supplies road-course handling by adding N2 coil-over struts, larger sway bars and Watts-link, all aided by Saleen brakes with slotted rotors and 4-piston calipers. Special PJ interior components include black bucket seats with orange inserts, a 200 MPH speedometer, a gauge pod, short-throw shifter, aluminum sill plates and badging.
This particular example is in showroom-fresh condition in all regards and will not disappoint the most discerning buyers. Complete with all keys, manuals, custom Boss 302 car cover, this is one for your collection, Sunday car meets or car shows, or just driving an incredible piece of automotive high-performance history.
