"2003 Cadillac DeVille 4 Door Sedan
""The power. The technology. And the prestige synonymous with Cadillac. DeVille embodies it all as America's favorite luxury sedan. And for 2003, DeVille set the technological standard. Consider Night Vision. OnStar. Ultrasonic Rear Parking Assist and StabiliTrak, (all available features), as only DeVille presents them. An impressive blend of power, with the revered Northstar V8, and presence that inspires ultimate driver confidence."" From the 2003 brochure.
For consignment, a 2003 Cadillac Deville 4-door Sedan with 32,861 title verified actual miles showing. This is a two owner car and one of 181,719 DeVilles produced in 2003. The model accounted for 76% of all Cadillac sales, so you know they were on to something with the DeVille!
Exterior
This big bodied Caddy takes its cues from Cadillacs of the past and blends them into rounded edges while keeping its proud, boxy style in Galaxy Silver Metallic paint. A statement is made by the large flush headlights which look like twin ice sculptures that flank the eggcrate grille. The color-keyed bumper cover is underscored by an intake grid that spans the width, while a hood ornament, by 2003 a fading feature, stands proudly on the expanse of the hood. Out back, a modern tail for 2003 includes flush mounted tail lights, an overarching third brake light on the deck lid, and quad exhaust tip under a smooth rear bumper cover. In profile, the long overhand and wide C-pillar likely mask a massive trunk, a Cadillac staple, while massive doors are slab sided with the exception of side body molding, monochromatically silver. 16-inch wheels are handsome attributes, and the cornering lights on the bumpers are bigger than some headlights we've seen! Chin scuffs, curb rash, and some wheel delamination are the only imperfections we could find on this clean DeVille.
Interior
Traditional wood trim, simulated in this instance, adorns the dark gray door and meets an ultra modern door opener, both sculpted together is an artistic expression rarely seen on a door, of all places! The rest of the profile on the doors is standard for the era with molded plastic under leather inserts with map pocket and speaker provided on each. Gray leather bucket seats are thickly cushioned and tufted in the center with a switch panel that is perfectly matched in color. There's some wear on the driver's point of entry, but all other seats, including the luxurious rear bench, are in fine shape. The black steering wheel front a digital dash which of course, lights up in green. The simulated wood surrounds the cluster and spans the width of the dash while dark gray plastic switches control the climate and AM/FM/CD/Cassette in the center stack. Gray carpet covers the floor nicely and the foam backed gray headliner is fully intact with slight sagging noted in one visor. Ceiling handles are provided for all passengers as well as courtesy lights. The trunk does not fail to impress, it's large and finished in gray panels ready to take on your golf clubs or largest of your Louis Vuitton bags.
Drivetrain
Big plastic shields were coming into their own in 2003 and show up on this clean engine, a 4.6 liter Northstar V8 rated at 275 horsepower and mated to a 4T80E 4-speed automatic transmission. This engine is transverse mounted and provides power to the front wheels and 3.11 gears. Power disc brakes are provided front and rear.
Undercarriage
Minimal surface rust and dry conditions greet us on the underside where everything appears in stock configuration. There's a slight center hump in the interior and the bottom reveals that it's the exhaust that travels through this tunnel carrying a cat and resonator and eventually splitting into two and flowing through original mufflers before exiting via four chrome tips. Independent suspension is found in the front and rear with MacPherson struts up front and coil spring in the back. The knuckles are free of grease and CV boots look fully intact.
Drive-Ability
The large interior provides a very comfortable place to pilot this big car, with hints of yesteryear's land yachts. It's impressively smooth and the power is more than up to the task of moving this 4,000 pound luxury cruiser with ease. Plenty of glass for visibility and a complete lack of potentially distracting warnings like lane assist and blind spot alerts. This still represents some old school driving though only 22 years old. Meanwhile, all functional items on the Caddy operate as they should and we roll this silver cloud back to the bay. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.
The Edmunds review received feedback from 75 owners all praising the spacious cabin and American opulence and the car received 4.5 stars out of five. Over 180,000 buyers can't be wrong, this is a fine offering from Cadillac as we entered the 21st century and now presents as a bargain luxury car, especially given the careful pampering and clean condition of this well preserved example.
