2002 Chrysler Sebring LXi Convertible
Seven trim levels were available on the second generation Chrysler Sebring along with four powertrains, and four different transmissions. In addition, a coupe, sedan and convertible were offered. Between the three generations, they were sold between 1995 and 2010 and were consistently good sellers in the mid size category and even offered in European and Canadian market versions.
For consignment, a 2002 Chrysler Sebring LXi convertible, well loved and well driven, this soft top is ready for summer and daily driving duty far beyond top down weather.
Exterior
Onyx Green covers the sleek body with a rounded nose that sets the black grille below the centerline and flush rear tail light hovering just below the flat trunk lid and just above the rear bumper cover which wraps high into the rear fender. An integrated door guard covers the door and rear quarter panel and the steeply raked windshield is rimmed in a black frame. The tan canvas top is in usable condition, however there is some hazing to the rear plastic window. Other imperfections include clear coat peeling on the trunk, scrapes and scuffs, some heavy on the front bumper cover and chin, several bubbling rust spots, missing paint and rust on a wheel opening, curb rash on several of the 16-inch wheels, a small tear on the canvas top, and a dent where the top meets the surrounding black frame.
Interior
Tan door panels include a faux wood applique along with a large safety light and speaker, all in decent condition. The well appointed LXi trim includes tan leather seats, and the front buckets include integrated seat belt mounts since no B-pillar exists. The front seats are a bit discolored and torn in some places while the rear 2+2 seats are intact but have some need for deep cleaning. A standard steering wheel has thumb controls and leads to a simple gauge cluster of four circles and a digital display encased in a plastic dash. Easy climate controls are in the center along with an aftermarket AM/FM/CD radio, all embedded in faux wood panels. The shifter is in the plastic housing the center console that includes two cup holders, an armrest, and parking brake. Low pile tan carpet shows a bit of age but is not heavily stained. Gray flannel panels line the trunk which shows usage but is in fine condition.
Drivetrain
Driver quality but clean under the hood, we find the 2.7 liter DOHC V6 rated at 200 horsepower, fuel injected and tied to an A604 4-speed automatic transmission keeping the spin to the front wheels where it meets 3.91 gears. Power disc brakes are equipped front and rear.
Undercarriage
Decent mileage has left its mark in the form of surface rust on the gas tank straps, the single exhaust, on wheel and steering components, and on the sway bar. Otherwise, a relatively clean and flat underside. Oil is noted on the oil pan. MacPherson strut suspension is utilized on the car in the front and the back.
Drive-Ability
This well loved car runs and drives and provides ultimate visibility with the top down and great ergonomics in the cabin. It has adequate power, decent handling, and good brakes. On our checklist of items needing attention include the air conditioning, which is not working, the top goes down but needs some manual help to get it back up, there's a scraping noise in the front right while driving, and the rear tires are dry rotted and need immediate replacement. The front tires are date coded mid 2019.
This high mileage Chrysler, named for a racetrack in Florida, still has some love to give. There's nothing quite like a midsize convertible to grab the family and head out for a summer drive and this old girl is up for the task! After 22 years on the road, this still has the ability to make its occupants look cool!
