"1993 Ford Mustang Cobra Hatchback
""By 1993, Ford's Fox body Mustang had gotten long in the tooth. The platform dated back to 1978 when disco, the Sony Walkman, and the Intel 8088 were still in their infancy. The Chevrolet Camaro and Pontiac Firebird were all new and more powerful for 1993, so the Ford Mustang SVT Cobra injected some much needed oomph into the Mustang lineup. The 1993 Ford Mustang SVT Cobra closed out the Fox body era on a high note. Looking back, the Special Vehicle Team's first creation set a standard that continued until the team was disbanded in 2015."" Thx horsepowermemories.com
For consignment, a 1993 Ford Mustang SVT Cobra hatchback with a title verified 28,339 actual miles, a one family car and one of 4,993 produced in 1993, one of 1,007 red cars with gray leather interiors. It's wearing its original tires and will come to you with the window sticker, owner's manual, and SVT paperwork. When Car and Driver tested these cars in 1993, they recorded a 0 to 60 time of 5.6 seconds.
Exterior
This pampered pony wears its original paint, according to our consignor, and the arrest me red, better known as Vibrant Red Clearcoat, is covering the body and the Cobra specific rocker panel extensions along with the open fascia and front and rear bumper covers. 17-inch finned wheels are also Cobra specific, here with original tires, and looking sharp on this low mileage survivor. And while we're looking at the profile, the unmistakable Cobra emblem looms large on the fender, striking fear into red light warriors for generations. Out back, the high rising wing is structurally grounded by four posts to the decklid over wide tail lights that are darkened by black accent ribs and midline trim, while dual exhaust chrome tips, angle cut, emerge from underneath. Rock chips along with a single, larger chip are the only imperfections on this SVT.
Interior
Pleated map pockets are the only extra feature you get on the door with gray door panels, standard switchgear and door pulls present. Opal Gray bucket sport seats live up front, the driver's showing just the slightest of patina wrinkling but equipped with the power lumbar switches. The passenger seat and rear 2+2 are immaculate. The black steering wheel holds an airbag and two small horn buttons, leading to a simple instrument panel that is classic in its analog configuration and pre-dates the time when SVT would stamp their acronym on gauges. For now, basic black dials with just the pertinent information without variance from the mass produced GT. Simple too is the center stack with dials for A/C control and an AM/FM/CD radio leading to the shifter in a matching black plastic base and adorned with a black leather boot over gray plastic. Medium pile gray carpet covers the floor with factory Cobra carpeted mats over top. Under the hatch, more gray carpet covers the storage floor with a near pristine presentation.
Drivetrain
Ah, now to the heart of the matter. Under the hood, an attractive and now legendary plenum tops a 5.0 liter V8 rated at 235 horsepower, that's 20 more than a GT. To aid in its ascension, Ford included a high lift camshaft, tuned intake manifold, Crane roller rockers, and a couple of other ingredients to yield a tastier cake. The fuel injected powerplant is mated to a Tremec T5 5-speed manual transmission that sends power to the Ford 8.8"" axle with 3.08 gears with TracLoc. For this kind of performer, only power disc brakes will do, and they're found front and rear.
Undercarriage
We've come to expect surface rust on components such as the driveshaft, rear axle, and suspension parts and that's what we have here, simply a function of time rather than wet road escapades. Factory headers lead to dual exhaust that intersects original equipment mufflers before announcing their presence via chrome tips that were sizable for the time. Coil springs are used on the front suspension and a 4 link with coil springs live out back. Sway bars are beefier from the factory with 25mm up front and 27mm out back.
Drive-Ability
Fox bodies have become the stuff of legends and whether an LX, a GT, or the top of the food chain, the SVT Cobra, they present as comfortable and tossable little cars not overburdened with electronics or traction control or fancy sensors. This is as raw as it gets for a ""modern"" car which is part of the reason they are sought after today. This car's naturally robust exhaust note and willingness to go from the starting gate to a trot is still evident in this car. Due to the original tires, we're not going to flog it too hard, but the engine runs well, and the shifts are right where they were 30 years ago and all functions on the car operate as they should. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.
The legendary 1993 Cobras are hot, hot, hot. A look at some recent sales of low mileage stock examples is all you need to know to realize these are now considered very special cars. With less than 5,000 ever produced, (this is car #3564), this one presents the rare opportunity to own one of the OG performance Mustangs. Think of how many different Mustangs have since been produced and you'll realize this is the grandfather of the modern Mustang high performance movement. And very few people own one.
