1991 Manco Star-Wars Go Cart
Bill Hatlem started Manco Products in 1966 which, for the first few years, produced mini bikes. Then they expanded to include go karts, first single seat models then side by side units. As Bill tells the story, they started out in a building that was 5,000 square feet, quickly moved to 10,000 square feet, and a few years later built a building that was 22,000 square feet and stretched to the seams with Manco manufacturing. Karts were sold through independent dealers and even stores like Sears and Lowes and were sold to Norway, Spain, Australia, and Saudi Arabia. The company folded in 2010.

For consignment, a 1991 Manco Star-Wars go cart, a single seat car decked out in Star Wars theme and wearing #24 which would have been Jeff Gordon's number except he drove car #1 in 1991, the year he would win rookie of the year.

Exterior
The fiberglass body is adorned with blue paint and sponsorship symbols including Pepsi and Fritos, the breakfast of champions! It's an open cockpit of course, so even adult children can enjoy the ride enabled by the 5-inch wheels at all four corners. A galaxy of stars keeps with the movie theme which includes Darth Maul, Obie, Qui-Gon, and Jar Jar Binks from Star Wars Episode I.
Interior
A black vinyl bucket seat sits atop the tubular frame construction and a black plastic steering wheel is front and center, showing just a bit of patina but fully intact. Not much in the way of creature comforts and the L shaped pedals are split wide left and right.

Drivetrain
Behind the driver and offset to the left is the 127cc engine putting out 3.5 horsepower and fueled by a 1-barrel carburetor and the wheels are propelled through direct drive.

Go Carts will never cease to be fun, but themed fiberglass bodied cars are incredibly collectible and prices have been on the rise for some time and do not appear to be slowing down. This example has two aspects of collectability of course, Star Wars and vintage Manco go carts. Let's not leave out Pepsi item collectors and perhaps even the rare Fritos aficionado!
