1990 VW Subrau Syncro Weekender/Camper (Brief) History We are the 4th owners of this rare 4x4 VW Vanagon Camper, which was converted to a Weekender/Multivan style in 2019. In other words, the kitchen was removed, 2 jump seats were added, the rear seat was converted to a Z-bed and a table panel was installed. At the same time this vehicle received many upgrades. The most important was that it was completely disassembled and painted with the windows out. All rust was removed at this time. All new window, door, and pop-top seals were added along with stainless steel fasteners. A new Sunbrella canvas was installed in the pop-top, the rear seat was reupholstered, the front bumper was upgraded to steel and re enforced to accommodate being towed. The van was also equipped with a secret security feature to prevent theft. Many other details were upgraded or replaced at this time (For entire history, please request). Recently, March 2025, this van received a rebuilt 2006 Subaru Forester 2.0 L engine with less than 60k miles. At the same time, a new timing belt and water pump were installed. A leak down test was performed and the engine is sound. The van will easily go 70-75 mph on the freeway. A few highlights: This van has Nokian tires (great in snow). This van is equipped with a double locker; one knob to engage the 4x4 system and another knob to lock the rear differential. The rear facing jump seats on this van are easily removable with a quick-release knob. This opens up much more storage capacity. The passenger seat swivels. There are two tables, 2 double beds (one up, one down). The van has tinted window and A/C but the A/C needs a recharge. Problems: This van needs a new heater core, as the front heat isnt working (back heater works). There is one deep scratch on the right rear panel and several rock chips on the front grill. The automatic door locks are temperamental and currently only working for the drivers side door and sliding door.
