1984 Fiat Pininfarina Azzurra Spyder
When Fiat retired the Spider 2000 from production, Pininfarina took over production from 1982 to 1985 and renamed it the Spider Azzurra for the U.S. market and Spidereuropa for Europe. The original model, the Fiat 124 Sport Spider, was designed by Tom Tjaarda who has also been credited with designing a long list of cars including the DeTomaso Pantera, Lancia Fulvia, Ford Maverick, Saab 900, Lamborghini Diablo, and the Rayton Fissore Magnum.
For consignment, a 1984 Fiat Pininfarina Azzurra. Garage kept and one of only 2,577 produced in 1984. It's been well maintained over the years and has certainly been enjoyed. This pure Italian sports car is now offered for consignment with miles of smiles assured.
Note: Due to modifications of the emissions control devices installed by the manufacturer, please check your local, state, and federal laws to determine if this vehicle is applicable for use on public highways in your area

Exterior
Azzurra Blue is the color of choice here and suits the car quite well. Rock guards cover the headlights while small marker lights are on each side of the grille as early style bumpers replace the 1984 versions, with built-in markers. A Pininfarina F badge is on the hood along with twin power bulges, a feature retained for the modern Fiat Spyders. A luggage rack is secured to the trunk lid and 15-inch Enkei wheels in argent gray and silver rims add a modern flair to the car. The tan canvas top and its plastic window looks to be in great condition and comes with a soft tonneau cover for a clean look when the top is stowed. Coveted Pininfarina badges are on the rear quarter panels. Overall, the paint and body are in great shape with a few imperfections in a filler repair noted along with a crack on the side of a taillight lens.
Interior
Lovely tan leather door cars are simple, showing a bit of usage but intact and fully presentable. The high backed tan leather bucket seats are in great shape and would benefit from a deep cleaning where entry contact is made. At some point, the interior was restored so these do not have the same mileage as the car and are firm. The wood treatment on the car is fantastic. A dark cherry-like wood starts at the steering wheel which also has three polished spokes. Leather surrounds the dashboard which is backed with genuine wood and houses chrome rimmed, black-faced gauges, neat and clean and easy to read. In the center stack we find a Clarion head unit with AM/FM/CD, a number of square switches and lights in true Italian form, and an analogue clock and voltmeter. Wood also covers the glove box for a uniform design, while a wood knob on the short shifter completes the package and is booted in tan leather. The tan carpet is in good condition, protected by fitted, carpeted mats. The rear deck continues with tan carpet and houses two speakers. Gray flannel mats cover the trunk.
Drivetrain
Good, driver quality and clean appearance greets you as you lift the hood and see the 1955cc DOHC inline 4 cylinder powerplant equipped with Bosch L-Jetronic fuel injection. This is rated at 102 horsepower and activated into motion by a 5-speed manual transmission that sends power to the rear wheels and 3.90 gears in the axle. Our consignor states a cylinder head and valve job was done at 88k miles. Power disc brakes are found at all four wheels.
Undercarriage
A car that's been driven and certainly showing it underneath, but nothing of major concern or red flags for us. It's mostly dry and clean and straight. Our consignor informs us that at some point, the rear suspension, differential, brakes, and exhaust were replaced. That exhaust runs from headers and encounters a stock style muffler before exiting in the back via twin tailpipes. No catalytic converter is present. Coil spring suspension is in the front while trailing arm, coil spring, and panhard bar make up the rear suspension.
Drive-Ability
Let's face it there's something unique about European roadsters and spyders, a certain, je nais se quois. You feel it in this car in its cozy cabin with leather and wood trim and high revving 4 cylinder engine. It is comfortable and provides good acceleration, handling, and braking. It's wide and low and sure footed. All the electronic functions seem to work. Molto bene!
The names Pininfarina and Tjaarda are synonymous with automotive greatness. To have a car associated with either one of these names would be great. Here's a car that combines the talents of both is a nimble, fun, and unambiguously Italian automobile in its final generation of production, until the modern ones were introduced). Telefono oggi! (Call today!)
