"1981 Chevrolet K-30 4x4 Long Bed Pickup
""New Chevy pickups. For 1981, an important step ahead. New optional V8 with Electronic Spark Control. Improved Six. New trimmer body, but with the same big full size payloads. New colors. New, leaner looks, cleaner aerodynamic styling, new fuel efficiency, plus Chevy's traditional tough truck features. New Chevy pickups. An important step ahead. For Chevy and you."" From the 1981 sales brochure.
For consignment, a 1981 Chevrolet K30 4x4 long bed pickup truck showing 12,790 miles which are not actual. This truck has come a long way from the factory equipped trucks touted in the '81 sales brochure when the K30 was the king of the hill and top of the heap as the 1 ton four wheel drive option. As our consignor puts it, ""this is a one and only show truck, built expertly with loving care, sparing no expenses for quality. Winner of many show trophies.""

Exterior
Way before the color of the truck registers in your brain, the sheer height and massive tires bowl you over like a freight train; it's one impressive beast. Under the lifted body are 16.5-inch Weld Racing wheels carrying 39x18R16.5 TSL Bogger Super Swamper tires and we haven't seen treads like this since the sand drags held in the Vegas desert many years ago! The body is enhanced with a heavy duty bumpers with embedded fog lights in front, fender flares color matched to the Cherry Red paint, and a triple bed bar in gleaming chrome. A cowl hood and color keyed windshield visor complete the add ons that beef up this truck's beefy profile. The rear bed, which has its share of dings, lifts hydraulically and aside from being able to dump its contents, it just looks darn cool! On the outside, the paint and metal are outstanding and we could not find any exterior flaws on the truck.
Interior
The door panels look standard GM to us and present with a slight patina and a gray velour accent panel, carpeted kick panel, and typical switches and controls. Some of the chrome around the electric switches has some delamination. A gray cloth cover slides over the bench seat which spans the width of the interior and is in good shape, facing a standard Chevy steering wheel and dashboard with only the gas gauge being aftermarket. Heater controls are typical and, in the middle, but there's no A/C on board, and an Audiovox AM/FM/Cassette radio is located just under the climate panel. Low pile gray carpet covers the floor cleanly, interrupted by the range selector rising from the central hump.
Drivetrain
The engine bay begins with glossy maroon inner fenders that should be included in your waxing and polishing routine to maintain their glistening show. The engine is clean too and it's a 350ci V8, bored .030 over with a mild cam, an Edelbrock intake and 600cfm 4-barrel carburetor, all tied to a TH350 3-speed automatic transmission. A Dana 60 is in the front axle and a 14 bolt is out back with 4.88 gears. Coated headers keep doing their part in completing a show worthy engine compartment which has finned Edelbrock valve covers and lots of polished parts. Power brakes on the rig with front disc and rear drums.
Undercarriage
Suspension and the undercarriage may be the star of the show, beginning with the chrome diff cover out back and the glossy black frame rails and axles on this one tonner. The gas tank, transfer case, and drive shaft are painted body color and eight Superlift shocks live out back and four more are up front dressed in dramatic blue and white. There's an 8"" Superlift suspension and 3"" body lift which sends this truck impressively skyward. The dual exhaust travels through FlowMaster mufflers before turning to the side and exiting discretely before the rear wheels. There is no catalytic converter present.
Drive-Ability
We climb, (and we mean climb!), up in the cab of this monster truck and can almost see the roof of the mall. The 350 lets out a roar on startup and the tires roll along our dry blacktop in search of a bog somewhere, complaining with some expected noise from the radical treads. But there's plenty of power to move this truck along and despite the high center of gravity, the truck tracks straight and handles turns with ease as we feather our way into curves. We don't put it in 4 wheel drive because we're informed the ratios don't match between the axles, so for now it's a RWD truck only. Meanwhile, all functions onboard worked as intended. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.
If P.T. Barnum drove a truck, this would be it, the greatest show on earth! Proportions that are striking, paint that is darn near perfect, and an undercarriage that's worth its weight in gold, you can't go wrong with this glossy high rise. Others will show up with their cute K10's and K20's, but this big boss will steal the show, be it your typical car show or the increasingly popular 4x4 gatherings. Are you ready to step up to the K30? Ring us up. Way up.
