"Cruisin Classics is pleased to present to you this 1978 Datsun 280Z 2+2. This 3-owner Datsun was originally owned by a member of the McBroom family, who owned McBroom Luxury Auto Sales in Kankakee, Illinois. In the fall of 1979, a gentleman from Illinois purchased this car with only 5K miles on it from that same dealership, and he went on to own it for the next 44 years. During his ownership, this 280Z was regularly serviced, and all of the receipts were saved and kept with the car. The next owner of the car took the wheel in 2023, and he invested over $9K getting the car into excellent running & driving condition (he also saved the receipts). Items attended to recently include a new alternator, belts, front & rear swaybar links, front radius arm bushings, rear crossmember support bushings, rear drum brakes, front pads and rotors, coolant flush, power steering flush, transmission drain & fill, rear differential service, fuel induction service, plugs & wires, distributor cap & rotor, valve cover gasket, shift lever bushing, and a new fuel injector. Let's dig a little deeper into this classic 280Z...
This Datsun comes to us today dressed in mostly original Racing Green paint paired with a Buckskin interior a sensational color combination for this car. The paint looks good at a distance, but a closer inspection reveals rock chips on the hood, cracking on the upper fenders, wiper valence, and hatchback, and some bubbling on the passenger-side rocker panel beneath and behind the door. The owner of 44 years had bodywork and paintwork done to the lower rear quarters and the passenger drip rail back in 2011 (we have those receipts), and at the same time, he had the windshield removed and the area around it rust-proofed as a preventative measure. The undercarriage of the car was undercoated when it was new, and it is still in very presentable condition for a car of this age. At the front end of the car, you'll find a low-slung vented hood with a ""Datsun"" badge at the leading edge and a thin horizontal grey grille beneath. The grille is flanked by recessed circular headlights, and beneath is a chrome bumper with accordion-style rubber end caps and front overriders. Moving around to the side of the car, many bright elements pop in the light, such as the windshield & window trim, drip rail molding, door handles, ""280Z"" fender badges, and some very cool C-pillar circular ""Z"" badges. Other highlights from the side include black dual side mirrors, black molded plastic mudflaps behind both front and rear tires, pop-out rear vent windows, and a working power antenna. Around back, you'll find another chrome bumper that matches the one up front, clear taillights with bright trim, ""Datsun 2+2"" badging on the hatchback, a rear window defogger, and a set of twin chrome exhaust tips. This cool 280Z rolls down the road on 14"" 8-spoke aluminum alloy wheels all wrapped in white-letter BF Goodrich Radial T/A tires.
Under the forward-lifting hood is a stock-looking engine bay that is home to a 2.8-liter L28E Inline 6-cylinder engine with approximately 31K miles on it. In 1998 (at 76K miles), the long-term owner noticed that the car was burning excessive oil so he replaced the original engine with a new genuine Nissan remanufactured engine (yes, we have those receipts too). The iron block is topped off with an alloy head, a single overhead camshaft, and Bosch L-Jetronic fuel injection. This 6-cylinder is mated up to a 4-speed manual transmission that sends power to the rear wheels. Other highlights under the hood include power steering, a newer radiator (2018), and power brakes (front discs and rear drums).
Open the driver's door to find a great-looking original Buckskin interior. The OEM door panels are in good condition and feature a faux wood trim strip, an armrest, a window crank, and both a very low-placed handle for the driver and a rear-mounted handle for back-seat passengers. The tan carpet looks stock and in good condition with carpeted 280Z logo floormats up front and carpeted tan mats in the rear. Up front are 2 high-back bucket seats separated by a console, and in the rear is a bucketed bench for two with a fold-down back. The seats are dressed in Buckskin vinyl with both flat and woven sections for an attractive contrast. The driver's seat has a tear on the left bolster and one beneath on the side of the seat, but the passenger and rear seats are in very good condition with no issues. The black center console features an armrest/storage box, ashtray, shifter with wood ""Datsun"" ball & black leather boot, defogger and hazard switches, and an e-brake lever to the side. Ahead of the driver is a black 3-spoke steering wheel with a working ""Z"" horn button at the center. On the fixed column is a stalk with controls for lights as well as the intermittent wipers. The wheel frames a 160mph speedometer and an 8K tachometer. The odometer currently reads 7,718 miles and has been rolled over, making likely actual mileage 107,718. At the top-center of the crack-free black dash are round gauges for monitoring temp & oil, volts & fuel, and a non-working quartz clock. Below the gauges are a dashboard light and air vents with HVAC controls beneath. The A/C blows cold with a strong fan, but the heat does not get very warm. Where the center console meets the dash is a replacement Clarion AM/FM/Cassette stereo that sounds really good for its age. To the right of the stereo is a switch for the power antenna. On the right side of the dash are a ""Datsun 280Z"" badge and a glovebox that contains the original owners manual and warranty booklet. Overhead is a nice and tight Buckskin vinyl headliner. Back in the hatchback area, you'll find hold-down straps for luggage and a space-saver spare tire. Included with this 280Z are all of the service receipts, Haynes repair and shop manuals, a car cover, and a tub of both old and new parts that includes the original radio.
If you're a fan of 280Z's you're going to want to take a hard look at this one! It's a stunning color combo, the engine has only 31K miles on it, the A/C blows cold, it's a 4-speed, and it's recently had $9K in service to make it a great running & driving car for the next owner! Give our friendly staff a call today and make this classic ""Z"" your own!

Here at Cruisin Classics, we understand that you have many options when choosing where you purchase your classic, muscle or collector car and we would like to thank you for considering us.
Cruisin Classics has been buying and selling cars for many years.. The majority were your average daily drivers but our passion has always been in muscle cars and hot rods so in 1996, Cruisin Classics built a 56,000 sq.ft. showroom located in Columbus, OH that they still operate out of today. All of our vehicles are hand-picked and selected to ensure they fit our inventory. This facility is now arguably one of the best-stocked collections for sale in the US housing hundreds of unique automobiles all under one roof. We invite you to our facility! There is something for everybody when you come to visit.
After years of serving as central Ohio's premiere classic car dealer at Cruisin Classics Auto Sales, we saw an unfulfilled need that was not being met for our clients. We loved helping match our clients with the classic and American muscle cars of their dreams. But what about after the purchase? We recognized that our clients needed a trusted resource to continue to care for their classic vehicles. It did not sit well with us that our valued clients and their incredible vehicles were being outsourced to, sometimes several, third-party resources for maintenance and performance needs. We also wanted to help the many people that we had met over the years who already owned classic vehicles which were in need of restoration, upgrades, and maintenance. Too often, we were seeing vehicles with so much potential left sitting in garages under covers because their owners did not know who to turn to for such specialized work. It is our goal to offer our clients a truly comprehensive, seamless, and enjoyable classic car ownership experience, from purchase to maintenance to storage. Thus, Cruisin Classics Performance Center was born. We have cherry-picked the most talented, experienced, and passionate team of technicians to offer our clients a true one-stop-shop solution for any and all of their classic car needs. Our honest business model has lasted almost 25 years to date and Cruisin Classics has a worldwide reputation as one of the best in the business.
Outside of the shop, this business has afforded us the opportunity to be actively involved in our community and fulfill our goal of supporting several local and national organizations that hold a special place in our hearts. We are proud sponsors of the Kiwanis Club of Columbus, the Columbus USO, Honor Flight, Special Olympics, multiple car clubs, and much more.
In conclusion, 100% customer satisfaction is our main goal. Always has been.. always will be. We would like to invite anyone considering one of our vehicles to come to our beautiful facility to inspect the car in person or send somebody on your behalf.
