"1978 Chevrolet Corvette 25th Anniversary
To mark the Corvettes 25th Anniversary, some notable improvements were made. 1978 Corvettes had a new fastback roofline and rear window which enhanced the Corvette's sleek silhouette and improved visibility for the driver and added extra luggage space. Inside, there is also room for storage of the removable roof panels. A larger plastic lined fuel tank is also a new addition to the '78 Vette with a capacity that was boosted from 17 to 24 gallons. The instrument panel has also been restyled and features face mounted, round, easy to read instruments. For consignment, a 1978 Chevrolet Corvette 25th Anniversary coupe with a title verified 31,906 actual miles on a well maintained sports car that's received a recent tune up, newer shocks, leaf springs, fuel pump and sending unit, brake pads, and rotors. It also has a numbers matching transmission.
Due to modifications of the emissions control devices installed by the manufacturer, please check your local, state, and federal laws to determine if this vehicle is applicable for use on public highways in your area.*
Exterior
The distinctive respray of two-tone silver over gray covers the fiberglass body and makes its transition at the car's midline and the 25th anniversary emblem, missing most of its color, adorns the nose of the car flanked by hidden headlights. Body colored panels are in place as the removable T-top and a large curved greenhouse rear window lends a stylish slope to the cockpit that's fronted by a steeply raked windshield. Round rear bumpers, and the front quarter Corvette cove, now represented by an integrated fender vent, are present. 15-inch aluminum wheels carry 70 series tires, white letters out, in a period appropriate profile and they reside under the coke bottle body that rises and falls like a gentle roller coaster. Imperfections include some small damage to the point of the nose, touched up edge chips, and some curb rash.
Interior
Tall backed Oyster leather buckets sit comfortably in the cockpit and are in great shape and the matching door panels with carpeted lowers also present well, though showing a bit of patina that can be remedied with deep detailing. A center console houses the handbrake, as well as the shift lever and climate controls and on a black plastic horizontal base. Making its way up to the dash an aftermarket Pioneer AM/FM/CD radio is neatly installed, along with a cluster of round gauges that monitor engine conditions and tell you what time it is. A square design dash has the speedometer, tachometer, as well as a veritable Christmas tree of warning lights is based in black plastic with a silver accent line, showing some patina and a crack in the black frame. A tilt steering wheel column holds a white leather steering wheel that has seen better days and is taped up like an aging football player. Oyster carpet covers the floor and the cargo area and is in decent condition, protected in front by matching mats. Our scrutinizing eyes find the glove box door slightly askew.
Drivetrain
Pull the hood forward and revealed is a clean 350ci L82 V8 putting out 185 horsepower and linked to its numbers matching TH350 3-speed automatic transmission, which transfers power to the back that has 3.08 gears with Positraction. America's sports car is equipped with brakes designed to slow a fast car down, power disc front and rear.
Undercarriage
New exhaust highlights a relatively clean underside and that dual exhaust meets stock style mufflers out back before leaving the underside as downward facing polished tips. No catalytic converter is present. The new shocks are evident and so is the new transverse leaf spring, part of the complex independent suspension system in back. Up front, SLA coil spring suspension is in place. Minimal surface rust is found and is only present on some front end components and the driveshaft.
Drive-Ability
There's nothing quite like a Vette, and that statement is true for each generation. Here handling was on rails and very nimble, seats were comfortable, and while not the fastest Vette ever produced, the seating configuration and low center of gravity is a recipe for fun at any speed. We note the power locks don't work, nor the horn, A/C, and the lights will not rotate up. Beyond that, all functions operated as they should. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.
With the design changes in the 1978 year, this car is a nice example of a mostly original car. Garaged, and well maintained, with good exterior paint and fiberglass, a fiberglass paneled ""T"" top. With the L82 engine we are ready to pop the cork in celebration of the 25 Anniversary... Congrats!! You could be the new owner.
