"Chevrolet celebrated the 25th anniversary of Corvette in 1978 with a dramatic new rear-window treatment that evoked memories of the mid-year Sting Ray coupes. While the new fastback-style rear glass was fixed in place rather than operating as a hatchback, it opened up rearward visibility and added considerable volume for cargo. ""Car and Driver"" joined other magazines in praising the new look: ""The large rear window freshened up the Corvette's profile, and it also added space and light to help relieve the claustrophobia inside this, the most tightly coupled car known to man."" In addition to adding a cargo cover for privacy and protection against the sun, the Corvette's interior received a makeover in accommodations and controls. The console and center stack remained untouched, but the instrument bezels were changed from round to rectangular, a locking glovebox was added, and the door panels were redesigned with screw-in armrests. All 1978 Corvettes were decorated with special 25th Anniversary badges.
This 1978 Corvette features the optional L82 version of the 350 CI Chevrolet small-block, automatic transmission and a Gymkhana suspension. Other features include power steering and power 4-wheel disc brakes, factory air conditioning, power windows and door locks, tilt-telescopic steering wheel, AM/FM CD stereo, silver exterior, red leather interior, rear window defogger, glass and painted removable T-tops, sport mirrors, tinted glass and polished aluminum wheels mounting the BFG radial tires.
