"1977 International Scout II
The great Elvis Presley had many cars as it is known. But one that is lesser known and now on display at Graceland is a 1974 International Scout II which has been restored to new condition, just as when Elvis purchased it in Memphis. There was also a second Scout II used by Uncle Vester Presley that can be seen in many of the photos from 1977 when Elvis passed. In February of 1977, the Super Scout II was released, a barebones, off-road version of the Scout intended to compete with the Jeep CJ, but it didn't sell nearly as many and are rare finds today.
For consignment, a 1977 International Super Scout II, (SSII), with approximately 1,800 miles since the completion of the build, a full restoration during which no bolt went unturned. The unusual open configuration and Baja Cruiser additions make this a unique International with a striking appearance and spotless presentation.
Exterior
The two stage Grabber Blue will get your attention just before the graphics package and black fiberglass doorless frame cause your eyebrow to raise and your jaw to drop. The bright blue is further contrasted by the black grille, unique to the SS II and black bumper which holds a pair of LED offroad lights with the KC Daylighter smiley face covers, flanking a Rough Country winch. The back bumper is black as well and sits below a decaled tailgate also consistent with the SSII. 15-inch aluminum slotted wheels wear knobby 33x10.50R15LT tires with a late 2022 date code. Billet aluminum turn signal housing adds a bit of heft to the lights while the paint and graphic are spotless and we were unable to find any exterior imperfections.
Interior
Black vinyl bucket seats with plaid cloth inserts look right at home in the blue cab of the rig, flanking a center console with armrest, storage, and the requisite cupholders. The powder coated roll bar is custom and houses 3 point seatbelts in front and frames the rear bench with the same material configuration as the front. In back is a full size spare wheel and tire and a large speaker. A leather wrapped Scout steering wheel is presented to the driver ahead of original gauges that have been restored. An Alpine AM/FM/CD player is present and has AUX and Bluetooth capability and is accompanied by a 700 watt amplifier tucked under the driver's seat. The shifter and range selector are floor mounted, and that floor has been coated with Raptor bed liner and painted to match.

Drivetrain
Under the hood, a clean 5.3 liter V8 which our consignor states is freshly remanufactured and puts out 350 horsepower. It is fuel injected and tied to a 4L65E 4-speed automatic, also remanufactured, and a Jeep Dana 300 transfer case. This sends power to Dana 44 axles front and rear with 3.73 gears. There's limited slip in the rear axle, Tom Wood's driveshafts, and per our consignor, axles have been rebuilt with new bearings, seals, and gears. Power disc brakes are found up front and power drums in the rear. New parts include the master cylinder, rotors, drums, pads, shoes, wheel cylinders, lines, hoses, and parking brake cable.
Undercarriage
Show worthy clean underneath where leaf springs are found front and rear. The exhaust shines bright and encounters a Flow FX Flowmaster muffler before exiting via a chrome tip on the left side. Underneath, we also find a 2.5"" lift with new poly bushings, custom reverse shackles for better ride, new HD steering tie rod and drag link, Bilstein 5100 shocks, and front knuckles reclocked 5 degrees for caster.
Drive-Ability
What a ride! Open air and surrounded by a husky bodied rig making us feel invincible. We're ready to tame the blacktop, at least for a short trip, to experience this off-roader in an unnatural habitat. But it rides just fine and breathes with a healthy huff from the exhaust. As a purpose built utilitarian vehicle, creature comforts are limited, but that's exactly the appeal! And functions are few, so all aboard work as intended. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.
This Scout is all about grabbing. From the Grabber Blue paint to the General Grabber tires and everything in between, it grabs your attention. It's a stunner and likely may never see mud, snow, or boulders, but of course, that's completely up to you. Run, don't walk, to Classic Auto Mall to start your adventure with the Super Scout II show worthy utility vehicle.
