Gateway Classic Cars of Scottsdale is pleased to digitally present for sale, on consignment, this quirky but cool, 1973 Volkswagen Thing. The Type 181 is known as the Kurierwagen in Germany, a Trekker in the United Kingdom, the Thing in the United States (1973-74), the Safari in Mexico and South America, and Pescaccia in Italy. This 2 wheel drive, 4 door convertible has removable doors, a folding windshield and drain holes in the floor so you could spray it out with a hose. Power is provided by a 1600cc flat four engine, single carburetor with a 4 speed manual transmission. A roll bar, canvas top, vinyl windows, seat belts and cloth interior round out the features on this minimalistic Volkswagen, everything you need and nothing you dont. The white paint is in good shape as well as the cool plaid interior. Our sales staff is excited to hear from you and go over the details on how to obtain this Thing for your collection.

Our Scottsdale showroom is Gateway Classic Cars’ 16th location and opened in September 2017. We are located in Phoenix, Arizona which is one of the fastest growing cities in the United States and our reputation as the ‘Valley of the Sun’ allows for a year-round car season and a perfect environment to preserve vintage automobiles. Scottsdale is known as the home of the famous Barrett Jackson auction that draws thousands of collectors and enthusiasts to the Phoenix area every year. Our large and growing inventory includes plenty of desirable ‘southwest cars’ that have not been exposed to road salt and inclement weather like in many other US locations. We encourage our local car clubs and enthusiasts to come check us out on the last Saturday of every month for our Cars and Coffee event and cruise around our awesome 42,000 square-foot, air conditioned showroom.
