Classic Auto Mall

Morgantown, PA 19543
1972 MG MGB Roadster
The MGB is built to a simple, sensible formula and with simple, sensible technology, even for its time: The two-seater body, designed from the ground up as a no-roof roadster, (not chopped-down from a contemporary sedan, such as the Morris Minor convertible), features quite deep and wide sills for good length-ways and twisting stiffness and during design, there was attention paid to the 1960s' emerging technology of crash safety too, with an energy absorbing crush zones designed into the nose of the car.
Wearing an older restoration with a rebuilt engine, added overdrive transmission, rebuilt front suspension and a redone cloth interior this 2 seater skate from across the pond is ready to show and go. This rag topped sports car is appearing as close to the 1972 car that sat in the British Leyland showroom, with lots of attention to period correctness and is showing 113,210 title verified actual miles on the odometer
Exterior
With gaps well minded and steel straight we see the exterior bathed in a respray of Dark British Racing Green, the paint is nicely done. However, we do notice some scratches, inclusions in the finish and and some evidence of body filler in the lower panels along with a dent in the rocker and the rear wheel arch pulled down and out in one spot. The chrome is mirror like and shows no pitting, all trimmings are in equally good condition, and the 3 wipered windshield is crystal clear. The convertible top is in very good condition but does have a small tear on the passenger's side near the corner window. Fog lights have been added up front, and black rubber dressed chrome bumperettes are on both the front and back. Like new 175R14 blackwall tires with a matching spare wrap 14-inch MG chrome wire knock off wheels. A shout out to the truck, which presents with no rust and contains not only a full-sized spare on a wire wheel but also a tool bag.
Interior
A fully restored saddle cloth and vinyl interior can be seen even better with the top removed. Tuck and roll broadcloth inserts are surrounded by clean mar free smooth saddle bolsters covering the dual buckets. The hump races through these seats and sports a consolette with saddle padded arm rest and obligatory ashtray. Within the driver's reach is an aluminum bezel shifter with a chrome shaft and a wooden MG emblazoned shift knob and aftermarket dual cup holders. Black padded vinyl is in excellent condition and forms an elongated oval in front of the steering wheel and houses the gauge cluster right in the driver's sight line. A like new leather wrapped drilled 3 spoke steering wheel fronts the dash. An aftermarket Alpine AM/FM/CD player is embedded here also as well as a toggle switch and cigar lighter. Lightly worn saddle gold carpet floods the floors and has rubber MG logoed floor mats above.
Drivetrain
A pop of the bonnet and you'll be amazed at how well everything is buttoned up and visually appealing. The 1798cc 4 banger has been rebuilt and has a polished and ribbed aluminum valve cover and black engine block. Being fed from the side, the mini mill has an upgraded Weber 2-barrel carb to feed the right amount of air and fossils. Bolted to the back is the correct 4-speed manual transmission with added overdrive. A 3.90 geared rear axle is way in the back. With supple hoses and clean wiring and an upgrade to electronic ignition, you're ready to tour the countryside.
Undercarriage
We note invasive rust on the truck drops along with a spattering of surface rust throughout and showing a few hints of road dirt but the unibody and flooring all is structurally sound. Independent coil springs up front and leaf springs are on the rear and provide the handling ride with the front suspension being entirely rebuilt. Disc brakes are on front, and drums on the rear. We note a slight amount of seepage on the rear axle and a broken leaf on the left rear suspension.
Drive-Ability
Climbing into the clean interior it started right up and idled smoothly. After a brief warm up I left the clutch out and enjoyed my cruise around the Classic Auto Mall Test track, (a well-kept secret as to its actual location). It ran great, handled nicely, and has an upscale feel with the padding, and all being just right save for the brake lights not lighting and an oil leak from the engine after it has been warmed up.
A fully working example ready to be scooped up and driven immediately. An older restoration both inside and out and highlighted with a great cloth interior and a good paint job. I say old chap, let's take a tool through the Dandenongs mate and let's skip the beans and toast!
