"1972 Ford F100 Ranger Short Bed Pickup
Legend has it that early on in the history of Ford Motor Company a noticeable lowercase ""e"" completed the curl at the back of the cursive F on the Ford name. Henry Ford, and Thomas Edison both had winter estates in Ft. Meyers, Florida, and shared ideas and cigars. One Idea that would make Ford a real innovator was the concept of the assembly line. This original idea came from Edison, and in deference to him and his idea, Henry Ford honored him in his early logo with that ""e"" on the curl, and as they say the rest is history!
For consignment, a former worker truck come shower in the form of a 12,500 non verifiable mile version of the short box 1972 F100 Ranger. This hauler has been treated to a comprehensive restoration and modification effort including rust repair, fuel system modifications, a rebuilt transmission, new paint, brake upgrades, a suspension rebuild with polyurethane bushings, and all new wiring including installing new circuits for the added electronic fuel injection. This detailed restoration overcame the mechanical and structural issues this truck faced, and also brought things up to snuff making this more of a resto-mod than full blown restoration. So, much like our consignor states, this is an improved version of the original. Its bones underneath are sound and it has many many years of work left in it, or take it to a show or 2 and use the bed tohaul home your trophies!
Exterior
The 1972 F100 look is all there bathed in Grabber Blue paint with period perfect white accenting on the roof. Per our consignors notes, this turck underwent complete disassembly, and extensive rust remediation was performed to keep things straight and solid. We note a few dimples in the finish and some paint pooling/cracking in the depths of the bodyline on the bed sides, but all else remains miles deep and nice. The aluminum grille is nicely preserved, as is the entire front of the truck, flanked on the sides by round headlamps and above by FORD block lettering floating on the leading edge of the hood and a shiny chrome bumper below. The badging and trim chrome is shiny and shows no signs of delamination or pitting. The bed shows like new with a black Rhino-type liner finish that appears to never have hauled any goods or sundries. The tailgate has also been restored and shows proudly with a Grabber Blue embossed FORD logo. Cathedral tail lights cap on the ends of the bed sides and another blingy chrome bumper is below. The wheels are highly polished deep dish chrome steel units with polished caps and wrapped in staggered width raised white letter BF Goodrich Radial T/A's.
InteriorA large bench seat with a newer Saddle leather covering stretches from new door panel to new door panel and gives us the option of a third passenger when the central armrest is folded up. Black carpeting is on the floors and floats the interior with inky perfection. The factory dash with its square and rectangle design is in front of the driver and while looking factory, is now sporting Dakota Digital gauges. A padded black topper is above and a row of knobs and pulls are below. An aftermarket AM/FM/Bluetooth/USB stereo fills the factory slot and the heater slides are below. The remainder of the dash is painted Grabber Blue metal which compliments the black plastic headliner and blue painted inner cab steel splendidly.
Drivetrain
A VIN correct 360ci V8 is under the hood. It has been refinished innear body matching Ford Blue and is equipped with power steering and headers. Feeding precise amount of fuel and air to the mill is a FiTech EFI system sandwiched between a chrome lidded air cleaner assembly above and an Edelbrock aluminum intake below. On back is a rebuilt C6 3-speed automatic and a Ford 9 inch rear axle with new seals. Magnaflow mufflers are now in for the exhale.
Undercarriage
Nothing but miles of black rust free steel with a few glints of Grabber Blue showing from the solid cab corners and rockers. The other deviations from the black is the shiny exhaust and aluminum driveshaft. The frame is solid and all suspension is in working condition with new shocks, polyurethane bushings, kingpins, and the radius arms being cleaned and inspected. The brakes were also treated to a redux with an upgrade to power discs occupying both the front and rear axle with new lines. Break out the mirrors for the shows,we can't have the fans miss this stunning underside.
Drive-Ability
This well maintained truck with its injected mill lit right up and ran like a champ. Able to accelerate nicely, it handled smoothly with no wandering, showed straight bias free braking, and was a good cruiser at highway speeds. The only frowns to rear their heads during our time on the test loop were a radio that did not broadcast tunes and an odometer that needs calibration. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.
This classic has been through a detailed restoration that not only addressed prior issues, but also modernized this skate to be reliable and far safer than the original. Stunning looks, a plush interior and killer drivetrain all wrapped up in a rust free Grabber Blue package. Get behind the wheel and you can be like one of the big boys too...a real mothertrucker!
