*1972 Chevrolet Corvette Targa Top*Since the Corvettes introduction in 1953, it has always been an attractive car that was frequently inspired by its competition from Europe and America. But when Chevrolet first showed the Mako Shark II concept in 1965, it looked like nothing else on the road and created a stir among car enthusiasts around the country. As the C2 Sting Ray was phased out at the end of 1967, Chevrolet readied the production version of the Mako Shark II for production- now known as the C3 Stingray. With its shapely pontoon fenders and Coke-Bottle curves, the C3 Corvette was an immediate success that was an instant hit. Offered as both a coupe with removable T-Tops and rear window, or a cloth folding soft top, Chevrolet gave customers tremendous levels of customization for their new cars, meaning that whether you were looking for a cruiser or a track car, there was a Corvette for you. This C3 Stingray is a 1972 model- making it one of the most coveted as it was the final year before the beautiful chrome bumpers were traded out for body color plastic. Finished in the very period-correct color of Ontario Orange, this Corvette coupe is a fantastic driver that will make you feel transported back to the 1970s as soon as you slide behind the wheel. In addition to the chrome bumpers, this car is fitted with a pair of massive chrome side-exit exhaust which both give the car a fantastic burble and really add to the period look of this Stingray. Rally Wheels with large sidewall tires are fitted at all 4 corners and are really the only wheels to have on a Corvette of this vintage. One interesting thing about the C3 Corvette is that the area behind the seats is open and can be used as a trunk-but there is no trunk lid to open from the outside. To offer some greater flexibility in period, owners fitted luggage racks like the one seen on this car, to hold larger items that you couldn't fit between the seats. The interior of the C3 Corvette is a fantastic combination of comfort and sport, and is absolutely a place you could happily do a lot of miles. In this example, the pair of high back bucket seats are upholstered in leather and the famous 3-spoke teak wood Corvette steering wheel is sitting just in front of you. This car has been upgraded with a full suite of digital gauges, with not just the speedometer and tachometer switched over, but also all of the auxiliary gauges in the center stack. Additionally, an upgraded head unit has been installed that looks factory original but features a digital readout and modern capabilities.Powering this Corvette is Chevrolet's legendary 350ci V8- a notoriously reliable powerhouse, this engine was the go-to choice for the enthusiast who wanted to use their Corvette every day. What is so great about this engine is that parts are extremely plentiful and you can take it in any direction you want- some mild performance modifications bring great results but if time and money allow, it can be turned into a fire breathing race motor too. Backing up this engine is a 3-speed Turbo Hydramatic automatic gearbox. 1972 was the first year that the automatic became the more popular choice than the manual for Corvettes, with 54% of cars that year fitted with two pedals. There is no doubt that the 1968-1972 Corvette Stingray is one of the most beautiful designs to ever come out of America- and is in the running for one of the best looking cars of all time. This is a fantastic opportunity to get into a great looking example for reasonable money, that you can enjoy for years to come. Every time you open your garage, you will be excited to see this stunning shape looking back at you!*Key Features* * 350ci V8 * 3-Speed Automatic Gearbox * 4-Wheel Disc Brakes * Targa Tops and Removable Rear Window * Rallye Wheels * Side Exhaust * Upgraded Stereo * Digital GaugesFor more information on this 1972 Chevrolet Corvette or any of our 150+ High-Performance, Exotic, Luxury, and Special Interest Cars always in stock
