1968 Chevy Corvette L68 Convertible 'Numbers matching' extremely rare L68 Tri-Powered 427 Big Block Corvette Convertible in fantastic condition. Bird cage is solid. Here's some history: 1968 was the first year C3: Total 1968 Production: 28,566 (see complete production numbers in pic 24 below) The least powerful (and most common) was the L79 with a 327ci/350hp (33% of Production: 9440 made) The second most common was the L36 427/390hp) 4 Barrel (27.0% of Production: 7717 made) The L36 had the least powerful 427 engine option with the four-barrel carb, while the higher-tier models (L68, L71, L88) would receive the Turbo-Jet 427 Tri-Power Holley 3-two-barrel arrangement with the distinct triangular air cleaner. The rare 427 Tri-Power (the Holy Grail) was offered only in the following configurations. L71 (435hp) 10.1% of Production: 2898 made L68 (400hp) 06.8% of Production: Only 1932 made L88 (430hp) 0.03% Production: Only 80 made. ( This L68 survivor still wears its original British Green paint (968 Code) and the matching numbers engine, and all THREE 2-Barrel Holley Carbs were recently rebuilt. (Less than 100 miles ago) This collector is a solid investment as prices for the L68 are rising fast. Making it even rarer is the TH400 3 speed automatic. (only 17.7% of 1968 C3's had the TH400 option) While Purists may have had an affinity for the 82.3% of the C3's with the 4-speed manual in the past, true collectors will appreciate the rarity and practicality (everyone can drive including Valets) of the 3 speed TH400. Although only 17.7% of the 1968 C3 had the TH400, a lower percentage of the L68's came with this option. Still, using general numbers, if 17.7% (of the 1932 L68's) had the TH400, that would equate to total production of only 342 total vehicles, making it an even rarer collectible. Again, using general numbers (65.2% were convertibles) that brings the total production to only 222 vehicles. While 'British Green' was the most popular (16.7%)
