1967 Triumph Tiger 100R
Triumph Engineering produced their first motorcycle in 1937 and the 100 model since March of 1939 when it was endurance tested for six hours straight and an average speed of 78mph. In November of 1940, German bombers destroyed the plant in Coventry, England. The Tiger 100 would not be produced again until 1946 and in 1954, swinging arm rear suspension was a new feature added to the motorcycles. The 100 would be produced all the way up to 1973.
For consignment, a 1967 Triumph Tiger 100R with a title verified 10,254 actual miles with many new parts freshening the bike, and the original tool kit and owner's manual will accompany the purchase. Also known as the Daytona, the 100R was derived from wins at the 1966 Daytona speedway.
Exterior
The tank is painted Alaskan White and Pacific Blue with a chrome topped, engraved name plate on each side with Triumph's distinct extended R underline. Separating the two colors is a gold stripe that conforms with the rounded pattern of the design. The fenders also wear the white and the blue appears as a stripe surrounded by gold. The front has a few chips on the leading edge, but otherwise in very nice condition. Below the seat, the black painted storage cover shows some patina on one side as does some of the engine components, including the header which has proper tarnish from heat cycling. There are some nicely polished pieces as well including the gear cover, exhaust pipes, and air filter cover. The black vinyl seat is in excellent condition. Chrome wire wheels are nice and are 18-inch in back and 19-inch in front. The underside shows some usage but could easily be cleaned.
Functionality
Comfortably wide handlebars flank the twin gauges showing speed, RPM's, and mileage while an amp meter is embedded in the chrome housing of the headlight. The brake and clutch levers are simple and straight and clamped onto the chromoly handlebar. The rear taillight is a unique combination of a cone shaped feature protruding from a rectangular base.
Drivetrain
On the frame we have the 498cc V-twin with dual 1-barrel carburetors and rated at 38 horsepower. The gearbox is a 4-speed manual and a chain is driving the rear wheels. Suspension consists of a telescopic fork in front with rubber boots and a swingarm with Girling shocks in the back. Our consignor states the following items are newer: carburetors, gears and gear box, clutch plates, and gel battery. He notes the inside of the gas tank has been polymer coated.
