Zoom Classic Cars is proud to present this beautiful custom 1967 Mercury Cougar XR7 street rod. The vehicle is powered by a non-original 351 Cleveland engine that was rebuilt at 40,000 miles, and only has 10,000 miles since the rebuild. As a result of the stronger and heavier engine, it was extended with frame rails welded in for support to be strong enough due to the extra weight and torque. Older cars don�t have crumple support so this provides additional reinforcement. The vehicle was originally a manual transmission but that was also swapped out to an automatic. The odometer reads just over 50,000 miles. The current owner purchased the vehicle in 2018. The previous owner did extensive work to the vehicle that includes the rebuilt 351 Cleveland engine, transmission changed from manual to automatic, installed a Demon carburetor, and Wilwood disc brakes. In addition old floor pans were cut out and replaced, the interior carpeting, upholstery and lining all were all redone, and the vehicle was repainted to match original paint with faint metal flake added for luster. The trunk is customized and extremely nice, containing a marine battery behind the wall that powers the subwoofers for the stereo that plays CDs and features bluetooth. The vehicle features Billet Specialties chrome wheels. A new battery was installed in December, 2022. Early in 2022 the electric headlight eyelid door actuators were installed replacing the original vacuum actuators, an oil change was completed, oil gaskets were replaced, the gas float to display accurate fuel reading was replaced, the turn signal column switch was replaced, new LED dash display gauge lights were installed, and the ignition switch was replaced. In June of 2023 a new alternator was installed, the header gaskets were replaced, new plugs and wires installed, and the timing and carburetor were adjusted. Additionally at this time the front wheel bearings were torn down, re-packed and set, the primary stabilizer bushings at the power steering unit were replaced, the hood, hood latch, and DS hinge were aligned, a portion of the grill was repaired and secured, along with some other small odds and ends tightened. The vehicle has a clear title and is driven regularly on short drives. It features dual exhaust, custom steering wheel and a rust free body. Though the transmission was switched out from a manual to an automatic the clutch pedal was not removed, instead, it is pulled up against the floorboard wall. When you manually close the hood, the corner sticks up about a 1/2\". You can manually push it down and it is close to where it needs to be. A can of touch up paint for little imperfections (such as you see in the driver�s side corner closest to the windshield) will be included with the sale. As you open the hood to click on and off the switch for the subwoofer, you may be continually retouching up that corner. The naval battery for the subwoofer is in the trunk installed in a wall that is removable. You must turn off the switch under the engine hood after driving or it will drain the main car battery. While not perfect, one could rate this car an 8/10, and with the larger, more powerful engine, recent maintenance, and modern upgrades the value is increased. Overall this is a beautiful street rod that has been well cared for, updated and maintained.
