"STK 3973 1966 Ford Mustang GT350H Race Car
The introduction of the Mustang created a new class of automobile known as the 'Pony Car'. The Mustang's styling, with its long hood and short deck, proved wildly popular and inspired a host of competition. The first GEN 1 Mustang was manufactured from 1964-1/2 until 1973. In September of 1965 Shelby American struck up a deal with Hertz, Inc. to build their GT350H Mustang as a rental car. It was an interesting idea. This fully restored 1966 GT350 is a stunning example of a GT350H Mustang 2+2 that was reborn as a serious race car with professional mechanical upgrades. We do not have a complete record of track events and mechanical components of this Mustang, but based on what we can compile, here is an overview of the accomplishments and features of the car.
This Mustang has competed up and down the east coast in the Vintage Race Series (and others) placing First-in-Class at the Classic Daytona 24-Hour Race in 2015 (4th overall) and winning two SCCA SE Division Championships - it is a race car. The classic 2+2 body was reshot in 2-stage Guardsman Blue w/white stripes. The front clip is fiberglass with an R-Spec nose and accents include GT350 stripping, 'Shelby' hood, rear quarter window covers and period-correct American Racing wheels that mount 15"" BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires. The interior has been completely re-purposed. It features a racing bucket seat w/black vinyl upholstery, 6-point harness, quick-release alloy racing wheel and SCCA full roll cage. Other features add a Halon fire suppression system, tinted windshield, vented Plexiglass rear window and custom dash w/Stewart-Warner gauge package.
Powertrain elements include:
Built 302ci Windsor w/extensive internal upgrades
 Cast-iron heads
 Aluminum Intake Manifold
 Willy's Racing dual-inlet carburetor
 MSD ignition system
Oil cooler / Oil Accumulator System
 Aluminum radiator w/electric fan
 Tube headers and free-flowing exhaust
 Competition clutch
ATL Racing Fuel Cell / Holley electric fuel pump
Torque is delivered via a TEX Racing 4-speed manual gearbox to a 9"" Ford positraction differential w/floating axles and 3.89:1 gearing. The clean, solid chassis is equipped with manual steering, manual disc/drum brakes, HD sway bars and Koni shocks. The rear leaf-spring suspension is also fitted with Watts Link stabilizer system. (The owner has provided spare components including a set of magnesium racing wheels w/Hoosier tires, additional Koni shocks and a nodular differential with 3.25:1 gears. If you want a serious Mustang race car, this outstanding, track-proven Mustang GT350 has your name on it. ALL VEHICLES SOLD ""AS IS"".
