For 1963, the Galaxie 500XL continued as the top full-size passenger car series at Ford. Offered in hardtop and convertible body styles, it also represented high performance with a wide array of small- and big-block V-8 power teams. Thanks to Fords Total Performance corporate racing program, new lightweight versions of the Galaxie were released in 1963 for Super Stock drag racing and a new semi-fastback body style aimed at NASCAR competition. This 1963 Ford Galaxie 500XL Sunliner Convertible combines top-of-the-line glamour and performance with its many features, options, and outstanding restoration. Colors are interesting, with the Galaxie factory-finished in Code M Corinthian White paint over Trim Code 80 Rose Vinyl upholstery a handsome, non-standard interior choice that was not listed in the 1963 Galaxie dealer brochure. The Galaxie left Fords Los Angeles, California assembly plant on June 22, 1963, and was delivered new via the Phoenix, Arizona D.S.O. (District Sales Office). Other original options included the Z-Code 390 CI Thunderbird V-8 engine, factory-rated at 330 HP with a correct Holley 4-barrel carburetor, driving a Code 4 C-6 automatic transmission and Code 1 3.00:1 rear axle.
Benefiting from a full restoration, the Galaxie features outstanding paint, chrome and brightwork, a high-quality Black canvas soft top, a properly finished and detailed engine and engine compartment, highly original and very well-preserved interior upholstery, and a tidy restored underbody, chassis, suspension and braking system. Mechanicals are unmodified and excellent. Features and options include power front bucket seats and a center console including the shifter, courtesy lights, factory air conditioning, power windows, a power top, 4-wheel power drum brakes, power steering, and an electric dash clock. Other highlights include chrome bumperettes with black rubber bullets, full factory wheel covers with spinners, whitewall tires, dual exhaust with chrome tips, and a Continental spare tire kit. In addition to the factory AM/FM radio another rare factory option for 63, the Galaxie is equipped with a modern radio, discreetly hidden inside the console storage compartment. A recent test drive confirms the Galaxie to be in proper working order and capable of delivering an unforgettable experience with the top up or down! Canadian tax is not applicable.
