"Cruisin Classics is pleased to present this 1963 American Rambler 440 convertible to you. This cute little drop-top, known to its most recent owner as ""Ruby the Rambler"", is the same model of the car featured on the TV show ""Third Rock from the Sun"" (even the same color combo!). This Rambler has undergone a respray in its original colors of Briarcliff Red with a Frost White accent band that appears to have been done quite some time ago. The paint is just average driver quality but it looks bright and shiny at 10 feet away. The color scheme is further complemented by a white convertible top and red steel wheels with logo hubcaps and white-wall tires - a fantastic look. The convertible top does have a tear in the outer layer of fabric and the power function no longer works as it should (the motor still works, but it's weak). It takes two people to put the top up, put it down, and stow it beneath the white boot cover. As nice as this Rambler looks with the top down though, it's unlikely that you'll want to have it up very often. Up front, you'll find a bright hood spear that culminates in a vertical ""R"" logo medallion towards the hood's edge. Beneath is a chrome trapezoid-shaped grille with ""RAMBLER"" indentation and vertical bars that are flanked by single round headlights set in bright bezels. Under the grille is a chrome bumper with guards that are showing some pitting from age. The car's sides showcase the white accent band that wraps around the rear and back to the front on the other side. Further complementing this band is a strip of bright body molding that flows the full length of its bottom edge. Other bright elements add visual pop to the sides, including dual side mirrors, door handles, ""American"" script fender badges, and window trim. At the rear of the car you'll see another chrome bumper with guards (in better condition than the one at the front), round taillights with bright rings, centered ""RAMBLER"" badging beneath the trunk lid, ""440"" badging, and a single exhaust outlet.
Under the hood is a tidy engine bay that is home to a 3.2 liter 196ci inline 6 cylinder engine that was rebuilt in 2023. The engine appears to have been repainted black while it was out of the car and it is topped with an orange valve cover. To the right of the engine is a newer single-barrel Holley carburetor topped with a chrome air cleaner. Exhaust travels from cast manifolds through a newer muffler and exits at the driver's rear. The engine is mated up to a 3-speed manual transmission with a shifter on the column (""three-on-the-tree""). Stopping power comes via 4-wheel drum brakes with a dual reservoir. We have receipts for quite a bit of work done to the car since 2021 including 4 wheel cylinders, front drums, clutch, machined flywheel, fuel tank sending unit, heater control valve, electric inline fuel pump, distributor, plug wires, water pump, carburetor, and the aforementioned engine rebuild.
Open the driver's door to find a largely original interior dressed in red. The door panels are a combination of red vinyl and red carpet with OEM handles and cranks. The vinyl looks like it may have been replaced, but the carpet, armrest, and hardware appear original. The front seats are manually adjustable red vinyl buckets with chrome base covers. The driver's seat shows some signs of wear on the base, but for what seem to be original seats, they're in good condition. Between the seats is a center console that is home to a locked armrest box for which we have no key. Ahead is a red metal dash that has been painted black and topped with a crack-free black vinyl dash-pad. In front of the driver is a wide oval gauge cluster that includes a speedometer, gauges for temp and fuel, warning lights for oil and gen, and an odometer that reads 59,476 miles that the title says are actual. Beneath the gauges to the left are controls for the lights, wipers (inop), and heater & fan while to the right is the ignition. In the center of the dash are a lighter, an ashtray, a clock (watch face), and an AM push-button Rambler radio that is inop. The driver is given an OEM 2-spoke steering wheel with a working horn ring, Ahead of the passenger is a glovebox with ""American"" script badging and a tissue dispenser with an ""R"" logo mounted under the dash. Underfoot is a red hook & loop carpet that is showing some sun fade. The front seats are equipped with lap seat belts but there are none in the rear. Back in the trunk is a carpeted mat, a full spare with jack, a folder of receipts, original sales brochures, 2 owner manuals, a shop manual, a set of red & black carpet/vinyl floormats, a box of old parts, a car cover, a custom red & black cup-holder, and a framed promotional ""Third Rock from the Sun"" poster featuring the cast in their Rambler convertible.
If you're looking for a fun summer drop-top cruiser at a reasonable price then this '63 Rambler 440 is going to bring a smile to your face! It's not a classic that you see every day and it's sure to garner attention wherever you take it. While certainly not a conscious-level car, it has been well sorted out over the past several years and it is a pleasure to just hop in and drive! Give us a call today, cars in this price range rarely last long here at Cruisin Classics!

Here at Cruisin Classics, we understand that you have many options when choosing where you purchase your classic, muscle or collector car and we would like to thank you for considering us.
Cruisin Classics has been buying and selling cars for many years.. The majority were your average daily drivers but our passion has always been in muscle cars and hot rods so in 1996, Cruisin Classics built a 56,000 sq.ft. showroom located in Columbus, OH that they still operate out of today. All of our vehicles are hand-picked and selected to ensure they fit our inventory. This facility is now arguably one of the best-stocked collections for sale in the US housing hundreds of unique automobiles all under one roof. We invite you to our facility! There is something for everybody when you come to visit.
After years of serving as central Ohio's premiere classic car dealer at Cruisin Classics Auto Sales, we saw an unfulfilled need that was not being met for our clients. We loved helping match our clients with the classic and American muscle cars of their dreams. But what about after the purchase? We recognized that our clients needed a trusted resource to continue to care for their classic vehicles. It did not sit well with us that our valued clients and their incredible vehicles were being outsourced to, sometimes several, third-party resources for maintenance and performance needs. We also wanted to help the many people that we had met over the years who already owned classic vehicles which were in need of restoration, upgrades, and maintenance. Too often, we were seeing vehicles with so much potential left sitting in garages under covers because their owners did not know who to turn to for such specialized work. It is our goal to offer our clients a truly comprehensive, seamless, and enjoyable classic car ownership experience, from purchase to maintenance to storage. Thus, Cruisin Classics Performance Center was born. We have cherry-picked the most talented, experienced, and passionate team of technicians to offer our clients a true one-stop-shop solution for any and all of their classic car needs. Our honest business model has lasted almost 25 years to date and Cruisin Classics has a worldwide reputation as one of the best in the business.
Outside of the shop, this business has afforded us the opportunity to be actively involved in our community and fulfill our goal of supporting several local and national organizations that hold a special place in our hearts. We are proud sponsors of the Kiwanis Club of Columbus, the Columbus USO, Honor Flight, Special Olympics, multiple car clubs, and much more.
In conclusion, 100% customer satisfaction is our main goal. Always has been.. always will be. We would like to invite anyone considering one of our vehicles to come to our beautiful facility to inspect the car in person or send somebody on your behalf.
