High quality paint job
New and restored interior
Triple-carb 348 engine
Pervious owner had the engine overhauled
Restomods take many forms, some more subtle than others, like this deftly enhanced 1960 Chevrolet Bel Air Sport Coupe. It hides a number of driveability-enhancing updates under an essentially stock skin, including a five-speed overdrive manual transmission hooked to a triple-carb 348 engine, and four-wheel disc brakes. The car also wears a recent high-quality paint job, along with a new interior, according to the seller, who notes the upgrades have turned it in to an excellent-driving classic Chevy.
According to the seller, the previous owner had the 348-cu.in. V-8 engine overhauled, although the exact details of the rebuild are unknown to him. The engine is topped with a vintage 3x2 induction system, and its said to start, idle, and run well, with no smoke and no oil leaks. The engine is paired with a Tremec five-speed manual gearbox that the seller notes shifts well, but appears to show some fluid weeping. Complementing powertrain elements include a Flowmaster exhaust system with electrically operated cut-outs, as well as a 100-amp alternator conversion hidden with the stock-appearing generator housing. Additionally, the engine compartment appears to be very detailed, with many correct-style hose clamps and other fasteners apparent in the accompanying photos.
The exterior wears an exceptional repaint of the original Ermine White color, according to the seller, who adds the finish appears well-buffed, with no swirl marks and a few minor blemishes, here and there. The seller also notes there is no rust in the body and that the underside of the car had been previously rustproofed. The glass is said to be in excellent condition, along with the window, door, and trunk seals, which were replaced after the car was painted. Additionally, the exterior trim and chrome appear to be in very good condition, with a few minor scuff marks visible on the bumpers. The seller notes that the parking lights still retain their original, 1960-date-coded lenses, while the original brake lamps have been replaced with LED lamps for greater visibility.
Inside, the Bel Airs blue bench-seat cabin was reportedly restored and is said to remain in excellent-appearing condition, with minimal apparent wear, with most of it evident in the floormats. The seller reports the carpet, seat covers, and headliner are correct-appearing reproductions, while the door panels and dashboard also appear to be in very good condition. He also notes that all of the interior trim is intact, all of the gauges are functional, and the heater works. The only reported nonoperational feature is the original AM radio.
The chassis and suspension elements are said to be in excellent condition, with no reported needs or issues, and good braking performance. Upgrades and recent service include new front shocks and rear air shocks, an added front stabilizer bar, and newer wheel bearings. There is also a Wilwood four-wheel disc brake system, with a Wilwood master cylinder and all-new brake lines. Along with the five-speed transmission, the brake system and other suspension enhancements are said to greatly improve the cars driveability, according to the seller. It rolls on recently installed 15-inch painted steel wheels, with the correct flag-style hub cabs, that are mounted with BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires. There are a few apparent nicks on the wheels, but they appear to be in very good condition, per the photos.
The seller states that this vehicle will be sold on a clean Virginia title in his name. Additional paperwork includes several receipts from recent work performed on the car. For the enthusiast looking for the classic, unadorned style of the 1960 Chevy, but with targeted enhancements designed to elevate the driving experience, this subtle 1960 Chevrolet Bel Air Sport Coupe restomod appears to have it all.
