*1958 Porsche 356A 1600 Super Cabriolet*Porsches first production sports car-the 356- debuted to the world in 1948 and vastly altered the publics opinion of what a sports car was. Over the cars 17 year run, the design continued to evolve but the general ethos stayed the same- small, lightweight car with a flat-4 engine hanging out the back. During this run, numerous body styles were offered but without a doubt one of the most popular was the Cabriolet. A gorgeous, simple design, the 356 Cabriolet was a no frills sports car that let those behind the wheel get in touch with the true essence of motoring while enjoying the experience of having the top down along with it. This 1958 356A 1600 Super Cabriolet was sold new in Madrid and was the subject of a comprehensive restoration by marque experts European Collectibles to concours condition. The consignor acquired this car from European Collectibles of Costa Mesa, CA who had undertaken a restoration between 2015 and 2017. Leaving no stone unturned, this restoration resulted in a 1st in class at the 356 Club of Southern California Concours in 2019 where it scored an outstanding 295.8 out of 300 possible points. The body built by Reutter Coachworks is finished in black, which is complimented by a black cloth convertible top. This 356A 1600 Super Cabriolet is one of just 1,331 examples produced in 1958 and still wears the chrome bumper overriders, fog lamps and full chrome wheel covers that are specified on the vehicles Kardex. The interior is wrapped in black leather with gray square-weave carpet which was a Porsche hallmark from this era. A pair of reclining bucket seats up front are fitted with head restraints, while the two small rear seats can be folded down, making for additional storage. The black color matched dashboard features VDO gauges including a speedometer, tachometer and working clock, and the factory specified Blaupunkt Stuttgart Type AM/FM radio remains in the dash. To top it off, Coco Mats have been installed with a black and tan weave that perfectly matches the rest of the car.Powering the 1600 Super is the numbers-matching air-cooled flat 4 engine that displaces 1,582cc. Breathing through a pair of Zenith single barrel carburetors, the engine is rated for 75 horsepower and 86 lb-ft of torque, which is sent through a 4-speed manual gearbox to the rear wheels. Although not huge power numbers by todays standards, the 356 was a very lightweight car, coming in at just 1,875 lbs which means that the power is more than enough to have fun with.Under current ownership, the car received a 1st place award at the Porsche Club Concours in September of 2022, and has exclusively been serviced by local air-cooled specialists Squiers. The 356 is an outstanding drivers car that forces you to become one with the machine and work to extract its performance. After driving one, its no wonder that so many people bought these cars new and were able to dominate far more powerful vehicles during the burgeoning sports car racing scene of post-war America. This is a nearly perfect example that has been restored and taken care of by people who really know what theyre doing and would be just as competent being picked apart on a concours lawn or hitting your favorite back road with the top down.*Key Features* * Full Restoration by European Collectibles of Costa Mesa, CA * Completed in 2017 * 1st in Class at Numerous Concours Events * 295.8/300 Points From SoCal 356 Club * Kardex Indicates Numbers Matching Engine * Largely Restored to Cardex Specifications * Triple Black Color Combination * Original Ivory Exterior * 1 of 1,331 1600 Super Cabriolets for 1958 * 1,582cc Flat-4 Engine * 75 Horsepower * 86 Lb-Ft of Torque * 4-Speed Manual Transaxle*Additional Information* * Car Cover * Service Records * Trophies * Some SparesFor more information on this 1958 Porsche 356A 1600 Super Cabriolet or any of our High-Performance, Luxury, Exotic, Classic, and Special Interest car
