"1957 Chevrolet 210 2-Door Sedan
""The main difference between the 210 to the Bel Air models is the badging. The Chevrolet script will be gold as are the fender louvers and the V badges are also gold. There is also a difference with the center and horn bar. In the rear aluminum flash, the Bel Air has the word in gold and the Chevrolet crest, whereas the 210 just has the word Chevrolet. The grille on the front is also gold on the Bel Air but the 210 has the silver look to it. A 210 VIN will start with a B or VB. The interior fabrics are different as well."" thx to Trifive.com
For consignment, a 1957 Chevrolet 210 2 door sedan with the rear aluminum flash and a title verified 56,868 actual miles. It sports a 283ci V8, a Muncie M21, and Cragar SS wheels which only enhance the look of this American classic. This 210 is dressed for a night out and has borrowed a few items from its fancy cousin, the Bel Air.
Exterior
Inset rocket dual hood ornaments stand out against Imperial Ivory paint and seem to point to the nose where we find a gold V and Chevrolet. The classic wide mouth grille is larger than life with enormous chrome bumpers in great shape, and rubber fronted torpedoes, another Bel Air design cue. The gold features repeat on the trunk lid and appear as three decorative elements on the front fender and in the Bel Air emblem on the iconic aluminum wedge. Tinted windows, a post, and the desirable two door configuration are real stand outs on this car and along with the 15-inch Cragar SS wheels, create a profile that's unique and individual in a mall filled with Tri-Fives of every shape, color, and configuration. Paint and brightwork are mighty fine on this 210 and the only imperfections are a couple of cracks in the paint along with a few inclusions.
Interior
Diamond stitched upper door cards are stacked above a flat vinyl panel, all in black and adorned with the normal hardware including two window cranks. Diamond stitching continues on the front bucket seats, this time with contrasting white thread defining the shapes in the inserts framed by smooth black vinyl. The rear seats and the side walls continue the layout and suddenly, we're swimming in black diamonds. A clever center console has cupholders in front and a pair extended to the back passengers as well. A Grant 3 spoke steering wheel fronts a rather traditional instrument cluster on a dash that's augmented with extra gauges included a tach on the tilt column, and the blessed trinity of oil, water, amps mounted below. An AM radio is embedded in the dash trim that looks like a Norelco shaver with vents for A/C just below. Bel Air motif is on the inside too, with gold script on the dash and rubber mats covering black loop carpet in good shape and hugging the boot of the floor mounted Hurst shifter. The trunk is also finished with panels and carpet and the spare wears a cover that bears the image of the car itself!
Drivetrain
Under the big hood we find a clean and polished 283ci V8 topped with an Edelbrock 4-barrel carburetor and backed by a Muncie M21 4-speed manual transmission. Power is routed to the back wheels where 3.36 gears are found in the axle. Power brakes are fully onboard with discs and drums, front and rear respectively.
Undercarriage
A few drops of oil here and there do not deter from a wonderfully clean underside with minimal surface rust and an absence of grease build up. The dual exhaust hit an H-pipe before encountering a pair of FlowMaster mufflers before finding their way to the atmosphere via twin chrome tips out back. Suspension consists of the standard set up of coil springs up front and leaf springs in back.
Drive-Ability
There are few classic cars as iconic as the '57 Chevy and the weight of their appeal is not lost on us when it comes time to drive one around the loop. This healthy V8 started up with a rumble and we set the 5 spoke Cragars into action and were not disappointed by the power and acceleration capabilities along with the straight tracking and great visibility of the enormous greenhouse big windows provide. Only the turn signals don't work so review your arm positions for left and right turns. They certainly knew them in 1957. All other functions available in the car worked as intended. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.
Big, bold, bodacious, these Tri-Fives never fail to impress us even when they're standing still. This one is clean and well sorted and is ready for Cruise Night, USA, wherever that happens to be in your part of the country, (or world!). Every collection should include a '57 with the flared wedge in back, but it would also make a fantastic only child in your single car garage!
