"1956 Chevrolet 210 2-Door Sedan
Long before they became legendary, Chevy Tri-Fives went through some subtle changes year to year. In '56, the 210 was slightly longer than the '55, a full width front bumper was standard, the fuel cap would be hidden behind the tail lamp, (a daring design that would become iconic), and trim and tail light design were slightly changed. That didn't deter production and with all body styles included, nearly a million 210's were produced in 1956 including more than 82,000 2 door sedans.
For consignment, a 1956 Chevrolet 210 2-door sedan showing 3,440 miles which are not actual, a car that has gone through some changes of its own since 1956. A new heart beats under the hood, it has disc brakes in front, Vintage Air, and most of its chrome has been refinished. But the Cinderella story doesn't end there. Jump in, let's talk about it.
Exterior
With the exception of the hood, roof and trunk, all body panels have been replaced on this Chevy, then covered in a smooth coat of Aquatic Jade Poly. The front features a custom grille and no bumper, giving the face a flat, rear canted profile which renders the jet-like hood ornament the most forward feature. A rear bumper is in place and is complemented by the metallic housing of the tail lights and the straight, chrome tips of the dual exhaust. A lack of side trim pieces creates a streamline profile on billboard sized panels while 15-inch Crager SS wheels break up the green for some side shot bling. Our 210 is fitted with chrome sport side mirrors on both sides and along with the rest of them metalwork on the car, are in excellent condition. The curved windshield coupled with the tall windows and narrow posts creates a bright greenhouse and the paint around it is in excellent shape, deep and metallic. We note one small imperfection in the paint in the form of a circular dap of paint.
Interior
Gray over dark green door panels are neatly designed and the driver's side has one blemish on an otherwise clean door card. The dark green is picked up by the bucket seat inserts in front, surrounded by a lighter shade of jade vinyl and the rear bench mirrors that pattern. A mahogany Grant steering wheel has a center cap engraved with ""56,"" a nice touch which sends our line of sight to the classic fan shaped gauge cluster, this time housing a series of AutoMeter gauges while a SunPro tachometer is mounted to the left. Contrasting the polished steering column is the body colored dashboard with a midline grille that spans the width and a twin fan shape to the right that is home to a white faced clock in the same style as the gauges. A B&M shifter is floor mounted just behind an AM/FM/CD radio with AUX and USB ports, and that's near the A/C levers that controls the Vintage Air. The new carpet below is a low pile gray that matches the added center console between the seats, and is protected by bowtie branded rubber mats. A gray headliner is high and tight above and the trunk wears a fitted mat and houses the battery.
Drivetrain
Under the hood is a spotless 350ci GM ZZ4 crate motor, according to our consignor, looking right at home in the clean bay and fueled by a 4-barrel carburetor and exhausted by Sanderson headers. A power brake booster is present powering the discs in front and drums in the rear, while a power steering pump is also onboard. Behind it, a TH350 3-speed automatic transmission that sends power to the rear axle and 3.55 gears on an open rear end.
Undercarriage
A relatively clean and simple underside features dual exhaust that flows through glasspack style mufflers and terminates out back via chrome tips. There's some typical surface rust and a few drops of oil on the pan and crossmember. Suspension consists of coil springs in front and leaf springs in back.
Drive-ability
The clean engine starts and idles just as cleanly and the headers provide a healthy grunt for this Tri-Five classic. 215/65R15's all around provide a surefooted stance and grip both in straight aways and turns and the 350 elicits smiles with its power on tap. All functions on the exterior and interior work as intended! While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.
With no shortage of Tri-Fives at Classic Auto Mall, it's always nice to see one that stands out a bit from the rest. A bumperless front end, a jade exterior, bucket seats, all wrapped in clean paint and gleaming chrome, make this one for your wish list! Our consignor tells us the odometer was set to the new engine, so you've less than 5,000 on the crate V8. New meets old on this jolly green giant, so bump up your green intake today by storing this one in the garage!
