"1954 Ford Crestline Victoria
""To win an AACA National Senior Award, a vehicle must achieve the highest score within its class at an AACA judged car show, with a very high level of restoration quality, exceptional authenticity to its original condition, and minimal deductions in the judging process, essentially being considered one of the best restored cars in its category at a national level; this typically requires a car to first win a ""Senior"" award at a regional show, then compete against other top Senior cars at a national AACA event."" From the official AACA Judging Guidelines
For consignment, a 1954 Ford Crestline Victoria showing 76,101 miles which are not actual. Here's an AACA National Senior award winner that's been the recipient of a full restoration and presents in showroom condition with perhaps a bit more luster thanks to the two stage paint that replaced the original lacquer paint while retaining its original charm.
Exterior
Quintessential mid-50's styling is exemplified in this fine car, gone are pontoon fender and running boards and instead we have a streamline, slab sided beauty with just a hint of tasteful swell over the rear wheels, delineated by a piece of polished trim that contours around it before sending a ribbon end to end. This part of the car is also dressed up with a rather ornate gravel guard and a small fender skirt and your eyes will also be drawn to the C-pillar which comes at the end of the curved rear glass and is adorned with polished metal and a crest. We could stop there and you'd have a special car, but the front has beauty of its own with a bold, torpedo fronted grille and stylized triple eagle hood ornament that rises like a chef's knife poised in a trebuchet. The Sandstone White body is enhanced by the Cadet Blue roof and the two are separated by windows and chrome, the blue roof meeting the rear window trim in a cowl-like expansion forming a wonderful V on the roofline. Wire wheel covers flash a red Ford emblem which is mirrored by the jet-like tail lights which protrude past the decklid. Emblems, paint, and brightwork are fantastic and we could not find any exterior imperfections.
Interior
Rod Serling might say, ""Consider if you will, an interior so perfect you might think you were being transported to a different dimension"". Greeted by triple colored door panels, multiple designs, textures and materials are delineated by subtle strips of polished trim and on the driver's door, a spotlight is provided. White vinyl on the split bench is biscuit tufted and bordered by blue including the glossy base and the rear bench echoes the design and takes the black band from the door and incorporates it into the armrests at the same level. The glossy white steering wheel fronts an equally shiny dash with a spun aluminum panel housing gauges and an AM radio, all in day one condition. Plush blue carpet covers the floor protected by white rubber mats and the headliner is high and tight and dark blue. The trunk is spotless with ribbed black rubber mat and vintage spare white wall tire.
Drivetrain
You don't win AACA senior awards with a dirty engine bay and this one presents cleanly with bright red valve covers and air filter case on top of the 2-barrel carburetor that fuels the 239ci V8. It's rated at 130 horsepower and is set into motion via a 3-speed manual transmission transferring power to the rear axle and 3.90 gears. Drum brakes are found on all four corners. The vintage windshield fluid bag in the bay is also red and adds great interest to the original presentation.
Undercarriage
There's some evidence of use underneath, but not much! A few drops of oil on the pan and rearward components and some residual film on the rear differential, but beyond that, the black undercoating creates a clean, monochromatic underside where a single exhaust flows through a stock style muffler before exiting and covered with a chrome deflector on the tailpipe. Coil suspension is up front, and leaf springs are supplied out back.
Drive-Ability
""Mr. and Mrs. Jones, your car is ready!"", and so we leave the dealership in this fresh Crestline with it's quiet engine and soft ride, comfort and efficient power is what we experience and we're left with a wide smile on our way home, or in this case, on the loop back to the mall. As expected, all functions in and around the car work as intended. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.
While this may have been your average new car in 1954, it is today a shining example and three dimensional testament to special design and style, the likes of which will never be seen again. This is one fine Ford for the discerning collector or for someone looking to get into the hobby and begin with a top tier example of rolling art. Unlike the Twilight Zone which exists in the dimension of imagination, this car is real, and ready for a new home.
