"1953 Ford Crestline Victoria Tudor Hardtop
The Ford Crestline was a short lived model produced from 1952 to 1954 as the top of the line available as a Victoria, a Sunliner, and Country Squire with hardtop, convertible, and station wagon body styles available. It was replaced by the Fairlane which was produced from 1955 to 1970.
For consignment, a 1953 Ford Crestline Victoria Tudor hardtop, fully customized including bodywork by famed builder Bobby Bosco of Brooklyn, New York. Wild paint, wild body lines, and a substantial drivetrain make this a street rod worthy of your attention.
Exterior
Nosed, decked, slammed, and shaved, this low riding Crestline is bathed in a sea of two stage Midnight Blue Metallic which can actually look black in certain light. It's a deep blue which is intersected by a body spear that flows from the front fender and cuts into the door. The broad toothed custom Chevy grille and bumper look to be about 2 tons of chrome and are complemented by the robust window frames and C-pillar accent, all in fine condition and floating the blue roof over a bulbous dome. A shorter tail section concludes with Packard taillights that form pointed fins over a contoured chrome bumper which throws shade over two massive exhaust tips. Moon wheel covers orbit over 14-inch wheels and the small rear wheel openings create a sleek look under the slightly bulging and decorated fender. Imperfections include scrapes and bubbling on lower body panels, small dent and scuff at wheel opening, and a piece of duct tape over a possible rust spot.
Interior
This custom cruiser is stuffed with puffy blue velour which first adorns the door panels with button backed and tuck and roll design that houses a diamond plate with modern electric toggles for the windows. Pillow topped Chesterfield style bucket seats are thick and blue, and the driver's side shows a little wear on the entry point but otherwise clean. The inviting and the big bench in the back, along with the upholstered package shelf, looks like a comfortable place to be. The driver's seat has power switches, but they didn't work during our test. A winged billet steering wheel with a blue rim presents to the driver and a custom dash contains an attractive row of white faced Dolphin gauges along with billet knobs and buttons on a glossy formed surround. Dead center is a JVC AM/FM/CD player that hovers above the center console with a tall retro shifter you might have to reach up to shift. It's on a polished metal plate on a custom console that also includes a cupholder in the blue base that's embossed with a sort of fleur de lis design. High pile blue carpet covers the floor and is protected by rubber mats with shiny diamond plate inserts for added bling in this chill ride, while the footwell walls are upholstered in, yes, you guessed it, blue velour! The white vinyl headliner is in good shape and the trunk is finished with white striped blue vinyl walls over a blue carpeted base.
Drivetrain
Shiny paint coats the underside of the massive hood and once lifted, reveals a clean engine with polished, painted, and braided pieces that make a great presentation. Here we find the stroker engine with a consignor stated 383ci putting out a stated 405 horsepower! It has aluminum heads, an Edelbrock 4-barrel carburetor and intake manifold and headers. It's tied to a 700R4 4-speed automatic transmission sending power back to a Ford 9"" rear with 4.11 gears. Power disc brakes are up front and power drums out back.
Undercarriage
Generally clean and driver quality underneath with only sporadic and typical surface rust in spots. The dual exhaust shoots back to a pair of Flowmaster mufflers then tracks to the back where expanding chrome tips create a showy exit. Meanwhile, we note a good amount of oil on the rear diff which looks like it might be running back from the pinion seal. There's a drop on the transmission pan and some residual oil on the flywheel cover. For suspension, the car has a Mustang II front end and leaf springs in the rear.
Drive-Ability
We sit down, way down, into the plush velour seats and go from a 50's exterior, to an interior from a 70's TV detective show. There's no shortage of comfort here, but in lieu of taking a nap on the Lazy Boys, we stretch this car's legs and roll around the test loop. It has good power and great visibility although one must keep in mind the proportions of this big ride. We note some exhaust leaks but everything functional works with the exception of the air conditioning and the previously mentioned power driver's seat. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.
If you're looking for a custom car for those Friday night boulevard cruises, one that is part Ford, part Chevy, with some epic Packard thrown in, look no further than this 1953 Crestline. It's a great build that combines classic 50's styling with a plush velour interior and deep exterior paint. You will likely be one of one at car shows and cruise nights alike!
