1951 Chevrolet Sedan Delivery
What is a sedan delivery, exactly? The lines can be blurry, but mainly we strive not to confuse them with their larger siblings, panel deliveries aka panel trucks. A sedan delivery is built on a passenger car chassis and employs a passenger-car derived body, while panel trucks are truck-based. No, the distinction isn't always clear. For example, Ford and others built both Sedan Deliveries and Panel Deliveries on essentially the same chassis. Oh, well.
For consignment, a 1951 Sedan Delivery for the tasking. It has had a black respray about 4 years ago and some customizations from the original design and liberties taken to improve on handling and safety. This car started life as a flower car for a funeral home.
Exterior
Donning its black shiny exterior and very good chrome trimmings, prior to painting all body work was professionally done and shows no rust , but a few bubbles on the rear wheel well area. All chrome and brightwork are good and remain shiny and dimple free. The front grille is a simple and original design. Front badging is looking good as is the large hood ornament leading the way. Side and rear swinging door glass has been tinted. The car rides on 15-inch black painted wheels with ribbed trim rings and a center moon cap. Wide whites are all around.
Interior
Textured almost terry cloth covers the doors. In the center is a red vinyl panel with some stitching and an armrest. It is slightly worn on the edge on the driver's side. Inside, faded red broadcloth buckets from a late model more modern car are now in. These have red vinyl bolsters and some gray piping for the armrests. In the back is a full bench, and for the cargo area we see red carpeting not exactly fitted to the space. Up front we see a full metal gray painted dash with 2 round gauges in front of the large gray steering wheel, and some vertical ribbed chromed strips in the canter some house the temp sliders. Below this is a lineup of bakelite knobs and the factory AM radio. Red carpet is on the floors and above is a white headliner which is slightly saggy.
Drivetrain
Under the hood in a fairly clean engine bay we see a 216.5 inline 6 cylinder engine. It has a rebuilt head and a blue painted valve covering. A 1-barrel carburetor and a 3-speed manual from the tree shifter is bolted on. Final drive is 4.11 and the engine bay shows some newer wiring.
Undercarriage
Up on the lift we note a lot of nice black undercoating and ome invasive rust in one area of the flooring. All clean in the design with a stock single exhaust, drum brakes, and independent coil springs for the front, and leaf springs for the back. Keepin' it simple under here.
Drive-Ability
The car started easily idling smoothly, and ran just great. Good handling and with new brakes and shocks helps this big carstop on a dime. A good time had by this test track dummy! (Actually I'm a little smarter than that but hey I digress!). While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.
A fine vehicle with some add one and light modifications. The interior needs a lot of TLC and it is overall a good example. I'm going to be a delivery man.
