The race was on for a new look that would capture the hearts and wallets of the rapidly expanding middle class in post war America. Ford, as well as their Mercury division, were the first of the ""Big Three"" American manufacturers to cash in on the new ""envelope"" bodies that blended fenders and doors into one cohesive design. Mercury's version became so iconic that most of these classics have been customized beyond restorable condition, leaving very few original examples. This stunning Maywood Green (13) 1950 Mercury Eight Coupe is the polar opposite of those custom creations, and is perhaps the best preserved example extant. Lift the deeply sculpted hood and you'll be greeted by the whisper-quiet and correct 255 ci Flathead V8 (8CM) with the correct Ford-Holley carburetor. Additional features include a 3-speed manual transmission, correct Tan Gray Bedford Cord trim (62), a classic Fulton Sun Shield visor, and brand new Coker Classic wide whitewall tires (215/75R15) wrapped around steel wheels. We believe this to be an actual 22K mile car as did the top-shelf collector we acquired it from. Besides a respray in its correct color this gem is largely original and it feels, smells, and drives like a 22K mile 1950 Mercury.
