1950 GMC CUSTOM PICKUP TRUCK (5 window short bed)
VIN: A228279453 Long Beach, CA area
CLEAN TITLE / ALL DOCS / 2 KEYS / COVER
Summary
This restored and customized 1950 GMC 100 short-bed 5 window hot rod pickup truck is powered by a Chevy 350 V8 crate engine that sends power to the rear wheels through a Turbo 700R4 Hydra-Matic automatic transmission. The engine and transmission are new with less than 300 miles. Many other assemblies and parts were installed during the rebuild project to get the truck sorted out. Handling, braking, and power make this truck a nice ride. It is eye-catching and a one-of-a-kind build. Steering and handling are precise. The ride is comfortable.
The body is original except for the truck bed and rear bumper modification all done in steel. The unique truck bed is powered by an electric hydraulic lift that opens to around 30 degrees giving access to storage space. The battery is also located under the lift bed.
The original build includes the following:
1974-1981 Camaro front clip including Camaro front and rear disc brakes
Rear leaf spring/shock suspension
Holley 4 barrel Street Avenger 770 carb
HEI distributor
Updated fuse box and electricals
Custom SS fuel tank behind cab with marine-type filler cap
Custom black and grey paint with clearcoat and pinstriping
Interior includes cloth seats and velvet door and roof lining in a medium dark red and burgundy theme
The new build centers on installing a new engine and trans and also includes suspension parts replacement, steering box replacement, and a rebuild of the 4-wheel disc braking system. Here is a partial parts list:
350 cubic inch small block crate engine with 350 HP and a mild cam
Turbo 700R4 Hydra-Matic automatic transmission
Hi-torque lightweight starter
Shorty-style headers
Finned aluminum valve covers
Edelbrock intake
Finned aluminum air cleaner
New fuel pump
New steering gear box
Aluminum radiator with electric fan
Overhaul of front and rear suspension (springs, rods, ball joints, etc.)
Overhaul of front and rear disc brakes (new master cylinder, rotors, calipers, etc.)
Installation of emergency parking brake
New tires
Paint: I would rate the paint an 8/10. There are a few scuffs on some lower sections, a couple of splits in the paint, and a small scratch near the driver’s rear mirror.
The windshield wipers are currently not working but were operational before the rebuild. The novelty horn is hot-wired but stopped working, again after the rebuild.
I purchased the truck in 2022 and have over $64,000 invested in it and all documents to verify the work done by Herb’s Automotive in Signal Hill. The truck is located in the Long Beach, CA area. This hot rod comes with a clean title, 3 keys, cover, and is ready to rumble! Genuine purchase inquires will be replied to. All others will be ignored.
