"1935 Chevrolet Master 2 Door Sedan
Got wood? Well, not in 1935 you didn't. This was the first year that the Chevrolet Master did not include wood in its construction, instead opting for all steel in a one piece ""turret top."" According tophilarego.com, ""it's Fisher's, (as in Body by Fisher), attempt to get you to associate their cars with safety and defense, even though a turret is either a cylindrical architectural feature or a rotating gun installation."". ""What's that have to do with the roof of a car?"" you ask? Nothing! Basically, the shape of the sheet metal forming the roof of GM cars was slightly convex, (domed) for rigidity.""
For consignment, a 1935 Chevrolet Master 2 door sedan with a title verified 1,765 actual miles showing on the title and sporting a 350ci V8, a Mustang II front end, and a sinister coat of matte paint. This car would have been right at home on The Untouchables and Elliot Ness would have a hard time catching the bad guys driving this car, but this car is from California per our consignor, not Chicago.
Exterior
The 1935 brochure boasted ""longer wheelbase, roomier bodies"" and indeed, this grand car is large and tall and its humpback ""luggage locker"" adds to the dimensions and girth. The fantastic two door is dressed in matte black paint and if not for the red wheels, would look not unlike the black and white images from early television. Speaking of the wheels, these are 15-inch ""artilliary style"" wheels with polished rim and dog dish caps, staggered width, and wearing staggered size tires. Adding some more drama to the car is the forward leaning hood ornament which is ambiguously part man, part bird, but definitely winged. Torpedo marking lights ride the outstretched front fenders while a pair of round taillights are accompanied by a single stop light under the plate bracket. Dual exhaust under the chrome bumper hint at some modification and suicide style doors over a wide running board add to the unique desirability. Imperfections include a rough spot and scratches in the paint and some rust on the rocker panel.
Interior
Light blue mohair door panels retain original hardware and hold a bit of patina mostly in the form of discoloration as they are otherwise intact. Column tufted cloth bucket seats in front have that living room welcoming feel, showing a bit of wear while the rear bench in the same material, enveloped in a blue cloth cocoon, has a nap inducing level of comfort. Definitely grandma's house. A street rod type steering wheel fronts a clean black dash housing white faced AutoMeter gauges just behind the column shifter. Back to 1935 we go to the center where brown bakelite knobs are accompanied by an epically cool original radio which now channels Bluetooth capabilities! There's heat underneath along with black carpet in fine condition with a puffy blue headliner up above. The trunk contains a carpeted shelf and is relatively clean.
Drivetrain
The engine is clean and it should be, it's a new 350ci V8 with polished valve covers and an Edelbrock 4-barrel carburetor on top. The freshly rebuilt TH350 3-speed automatic transmission sends power to the 10 bolt rear axle and brakes are configured as front disc and rear drums. Headers are onboard to route the gases rearward.
Undercarriage
Clean and dry underneath with minimal surface rust noted. The dual exhaust runs through glasspack style mufflers before exiting via chrome tips out back. Suspension consists of leaf springs in the rear and the double wishbone configuration of the Mustang II front end. Dear California, please export more cars to Classic Auto Mall!
Drive-Ability
Get your Tommy guns, we're going for a ride, you dirty rats. This is one soft interior and a pretty nice place from which to pilot this reliable street rod. The V8 moves the car with adequate acceleration and those wide tires provide good handling while the disc brakes up front do their job. This is a well sorted car and all functional items work as they should. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.
Pssst! Hey buddy. Yeah you. Listen bub, word on the street is you're looking for a new tin can, a new flivver. Well, we got just the thing, see. It's a '35 Master with a V8. Yeah, that's right. A V8. So how about you give it a looksie, check out the website for the low down, see. What's a website? Look pally, don't waste my time. Shake a leg and contact the boys at the mall. Don't be a crumb, grab some cabbage and pick this tomato up before someone else does, see. Now, make tracks!
