"1929 Ford Model A Tudor Sedan
The Tudor Sedan body style was one of the first Model A body styles. In fact, the ""mysterious new Ford"" seen on the streets of Detroit in the fall of 1927 was indeed the new Model A Tudor Sedan. The most popular of all Model A body styles, the Standard Tudor was available in all four Model A years, with well over 1.25 million of them being built between 1927 and 1931.
For consignment, a 1929 Ford Model A Tudor sedan showing 35,553 miles which are not actual. The car was fully restored in 1990 and will come to the new owner with a box full of historical information and documents for the car, including every license plate worn by the Ford since 1929!
Exterior
This A is a handsome piece, painted with a coat of Cordoba Tan covering the car, contrasted by the flowing black fenders and running boards. A black shoulder line accent stripe encircles the car complemented by twin orange pin stripes. Black accents such as the shoulder stripe pick up on the color of the wire wheels, including the rear mounted spare, and it all works very well. The chrome bumpers and grille shell, along with the Boyce Motometer that sits above it, all look impeccable. A vinyl visor and roof top look like they just rolled off the line in Dearborn, Michigan back in 1929, and add interest to the classic profile of the car, tall and stately with large windows and a perfectly vertical windscreen, flanked on each side by mirrors. A single chip in the paint and some deglazing of a window are the extent of imperfections on the exterior of the car.
Interior
Brown tweed door panels warmly greet you upon opening the doors. The pleated storage pouch is a charming feature that precedes by 100 years the molded plastic cup holders and phone chargers of today's cars, but effective for the time. More brown tweed covers the front bucket seats in fine fashion as well and we are always drawn to the cozy rear bench of these seats which are tweed lined little rooms devoid of distractions and looking comfortable. And for a bit of privacy, there's a pull down shade on the back window. A black 4 spoke steering wheel shows well deserved patina while the clover leaf plate around the gauge cluster in the center of the Cordoba dash shines like a diamond. A floor mounted shifter sits on a rubber mat covered floor in darn near perfect condition. The soft cloth headliner and its subtle puffiness is fully intact.
Drivetrain
The 201ci inline 4 cylinder engine is here and is rated at 40 horsepower, more than adequate for when it was new and still capable of keeping up with modern traffic. It's fed by a 1-barrel carburetor and tied to a 3-speed manual transmission which spins the driveshaft to 3.78 gearing in the rear axle. The engine compartment is meticulous and clean, like a time capsule and even the clamps are original style. Mechanical drum brakes reside at all four corners.
Undercarriage
Clean with minimal signs of usage, we note very little surface rust and no errant fluids. A single exhaust is in place, traveling through a stock style muffler before exiting near the rear axle. Transverse leaf springs are found at both ends.
Drive-Ability
C'mon John Boy, let's take a ride to Godsey's General Store and pick up some beans for supper tonight. We step right back in time, adjust the choke, and start this antique up. Horse carriage height and big windows mean great visibility and the car putted along smoothly and for 1929, rather swiftly. We're pleased to find all functions, few that there are, are working. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.
If you're in the market for a nice Model A, quickly read through this paragraph and then pick up the phone and dial 888-227-0914 and drop a deposit on one of the finest and best documented Model A's to have graced our halls. Like most Model A's we've had the honor of representing, this one will likely not be here long. And just like the sands of time, this paragraph has passed! Head down Walton Mountain and find the nearest phone. We await your call.
