The second-generation Camaros were introduced in February of 1970 and in production until 1981. Still based on the F-body platform like the generation before it, the new Camaro was similar to its predecessor, with a unibody structure, front subframe, and an A-arm front suspension. The second-gen Camaros were loved by many, with Road & Track naming the 1971 Camaro as one of the 10 best cars in the world in August 1971. Engineers of the second generation Camaros describe them as being more of "A Driver's Car" than the previous generation.
StyleThe 1971 Camaro was stylistically similar to the 1970 Camaro - the first of the second generation. The 1971 was the first of the second-generation Camaros that featured high-back Strato bucket seats and knobs with images on them that indicated their operation. Both the 1970 and 1971 Camaros have a distinct grille design compared to the 1972 and 1973 models, featuring more, smaller rectangles and a tighter knit design. The 1971 Camaro also still used the round front marker lights located next to the headlights, a feature that was redesigned in 1972 and 1973 Camaros. Under the hood, the new engines ran on lower-octane regular-leaded, low-lead, or unleaded gas, which called for reductions in compression ratios and horsepower ratings. However, the 250 cu in (4.1 L) straight-6, 307 cu in (5.0 L) V8, and two-barrel 350 cu in (5.7 L) V8 remained unchanged.
