I’ve owned this 25th Anniversary Z28 since the 90’s and it’s been my pride and joy. It was only a daily driver for the first 3 years then it turned into a weekend driver and project car. I’ve upgraded nearly everything on it so I could drive it from time to time but also let it rip on a track. It’s a project car that’s packed with tons of horses and gets attention. In the right mechanic’s hands, I’m sure this could be a crazy contestant at the local track. There is more to do to get it to the point where it’s hands off and you can just putt around in it with the on demand stop light race here and there.
I’ve poured my rainy-day funds into this car for the last 13 years and have enjoyed every minute of it. The parts alone are more than the asking price with still very low miles and light wear.. ready for the tweaking.
So the natural question one would ask is: Why sell it?
Well it’s simply time to move on. I don’t have the time I once had to work on it and I’m looking for some extra garage space.
The car’s in great shape (minor surface rust on hatch, and some scratches here and there). Engine, tranny, and rear-end have about ~200 miles on them. It’s got the original spoiler, t-top’s (a couple sets of them both glass and plexi), A/C, etc.. The insides got new carpet, headliner, and a new dash with the original seats (rear seats are removable and torque are is adjustable for racing). The audio system (modern with backup camera and bluetooth) with custom subwoofer enclosure (2 – 12″ Kicker Solo-baric Sub’s) that still shakes the house and brings back the old days.
The engine, tranny, and rearend would cost ~16K, so just those are even usable in another car project.
Ramjet 502 Big-Block V8 Monster, 502HP and 565 lb-ft torque
Currie TrueTrac 9 inch (3.70S Ratio) Rearend
Hooker Blackheart Stainless Steel Custom Dual Exhaust
Hooker Headers
Be Cool High Performance Radiator and Cooling System
March Performance Pulley System
4L80E High Performance Electronic Automatic Transmission, with transmission controller and mounted display for settings adjustment, shiftpoints, etc..
TCI StreetFighter Shifter
Hotchkins and Spohn Performance parts (torque arm, pan hard bar, rear suspension, subframe)
Wilwood Dynalite Pro Vented 4-Piston Disc Brakes Front and Back
The pinion angle could use adjusting (it’s adjustable on the torque arm) and the A/C needs to be recharged every few seasons (has been converted). Neutral safety switch (after market) is a bit of trouble from time to time (it’s a tiny switch that came with the Streetfighter and could be better). Window motors are slow when windows aren’t properly cleaned, I think the motors are weak from age. Intake has the original bottom feeder but isn’t attached to the 502 (original air filter is on the 502) as I hadn’t decided how I wanted to make it a bottom feeder once again).
The car’s not perfect but I’m sure someone who enjoys improving builds will enjoy it!
