With its long hood and short deck proportions, this Aston Martin Virage looks like something James Bond would drive. Built in July 1991 at Aston Martin’s Newport Pagnell factory in Buckinghamshire, England, this rare British grand tourer is one of just 411 Virages ever produced and one of only 93 exported to the United States. It comes with a clean AutoCheck report, showing 28,645 miles as of March 2015. Originally, this hand-built luxury coupe carried a sticker price of $265,000.

Finished in black, the paint and trim remain in very good condition. The all-aluminum body is straight and solid, the engine bay is tidy, and the body-colored bumpers are well-preserved. The cargo area is clean and includes a mini-spare tire.

This Virage has undergone a professional restoration under its previous Arizona owner, who had the car stripped and repainted, the engine serviced with a rebuilt fuel injection system, and over $9,000 spent on mechanical work. While receipts were not provided, the work was reportedly performed by his personal mechanic. Additionally, the interior was completely reupholstered in new leather with fresh carpeting.

The car rides on Kumho Solus radials, size 235/65R16, mounted on factory five-spoke alloy wheels, all of which are in excellent shape.

Under the forward-hinged hood sits a 5.3L DOHC 32-valve V8 with Weber-Marelli fuel injection and dual exhausts, paired with a ZF Friedrichshafen five-speed automatic transmission. Features include air conditioning, power seats, and power windows. While the car is being sold with an actual mileage title, the electronic odometer is non-functional—a common issue with these early LED readouts. Despite efforts to repair it, the issue remains. Based on conversations with the previous owner, the car was driven an estimated 300-500 miles per year, adding roughly 4,000 miles over his eight-year ownership.

Inside, the gray leather seats with black piping remain in excellent condition, both front and rear. The black carpeting, headliner, and burled wood accents on the dashboard, door panels, and center console add to the luxurious feel. A two-spoke black steering wheel sits ahead of the driver, while an aftermarket AM/FM stereo with a CD player completes the interior.

The Virage was a significant departure from the preceding V8 models, featuring a more modern design language akin to the Lagonda. Despite its all-aluminum construction, the Virage was a large and heavy car, but its 5.3L V8 delivered near sports car performance. Sports Car International praised its “eager and quicker revving” engine with Callaway-designed heads and Weber-Marelli fuel injection, stating, “Nothing sounds quite like an Aston V8.”

Notable celebrity owners of the Virage include Rowan Atkinson, Lennox Lewis, and Chris Eubank.

Competing with the likes of the BMW 850i, Porsche 928 GTS, Nissan 300ZX, and Toyota Supra in the early ‘90s, this Aston Martin Virage remains a rare and distinguished grand tourer.
