“This is a rare and very well taken care of Karmann Ghia that shows pride of ownership with multiple car show awards and lots of records including VW vehicle “”General Certification””.
“”The Karmann Ghia ‘Sports Edition’ is one of the rarest Karmann Gaia’s ever produced . Legend has it that VW America approached Karmann directly in 1972 with a proposal that they produce a limited edition, the ‘Sport’, directly for VW America with a total initial order of 300 not many were completed before the project was quashed by VW Germany who were not pleased that a deal had been struck without their knowledge or approval.
With a production timespan of just two months, March and April 1973, before the plug was pulled, the true capacity of the project was never realized and just 20 or so are now thought to remain worldwide. All were finished in Saturn Yellow with black accents complemented by a ‘Rostyle’-type road wheels and 1,600cc motivation.””

Beautiful car and very rare indeed! Good Luck!
Sorry for the lack of replies, the seller is having trouble logging in, here is what he asked us to post for him, hope it helps clear things up!–
Here is a link to a discussion on this topic on The Samba that clearly indicates that is car VIN 1432620647 is a real Sports Ghia by date of manufacture, options, serial numbers:
“I just purchased a 1973 Ghia sport Convertible. The seller was the original owner and stated that the car is a true Sport Edition Ghia. The car has all of the features of a Sport Ghia such as: Saturn yellow paint, exterior black decal stripes, Sport wheels, Indy steering wheel. However the seller did not have any verifying documents to prove its Sport Ghia authenticity such as the original dealer window sticker. I ordered a VW “birth Certificate” for the car and just received it. The cars birth date was 3/30/1973 which is within the time frame when these were allegedly manufactured. The VIN is 1432620501 which is also within the production of these. The certificate “special configuration” indicate that the car was ordinally equipped with: D21 (cannot be identified??), M002 (sealed beam headlamps,, M261(addition right rear view mirror) and M976- 5 sport rims, 4 1/2×15. Does any member or Ghia expert know if the Sport wheels were offered as an option on NON SPORT GHIA’S also? If not then I assume that this is legitimate proof that this Ghia is indeed a true Sport Ghia. If so, any ideas to prove its authenticity?”
