This 1966 Stingray Custom Coupe was purchased by the seller in 1974 from the second owner, a GM exec at Chevrolet engine plant in Tonawanda, NY. The original 427 was replaced with the current 1970 454-390 HP during the previous ownership the four wheel well flares were also installed at that time.
The car underwent a complete body, paint and trim restoration. 11 months in the making, completed in 2021. Stripped to the factory primer wherever necessary. Prepped and repainted in 1984 Chrysler Garnet Pearl with a Candy Clear over the red and Platinum Granite Metallic Stripes. All new lights, emblems, door handles and rear view mirror have been installed (USA made and GM trim parts used) Stainless window trim was re-polished and a new date-coded windshield was installed.
The odometer shows 63,090 original miles. The car was in storage from 1977-1984. In 1984 it was repainted for the first time. Original purchase miles was 22,000. The engine was completely rebuilt in 2008 at 52,181 miles. The front suspension and brakes were also rebuilt at this time.
The rear suspension /drive line rebuild was completed in 2017 at 60,122 miles. The O.E.M. .308 ring and pinion were replaced with Richmond .355’s new Posi./Carrier, clutch pack, shims, Spicer-U Joints and a 1968 rear carrier case to facilitate the use of adjustable strut rods.
A mono-fiberglass rear spring was also installed at this time. Front and rear sway bars were installed two sizes up from the original F/41 SUP package along with KYB gas shocks, NOS trailing arms, backing plates along with the original spindles.
The rear cross member was replaced as well w/new Sombrero brackets, pinion “snubber” bracket and trailing arm pockets. Also all new E-brake components.
A complete interior w/the exception of original door panels and dash pads was completed in 2018. Repair and rebuild of the spine, tunnel work, full Dyna-mat, carpeting, seat covers (Al-Knoche), upgraded retro stereo system, 8 speakers, SIRIUS XM, and bluetooth capability.
A Tremec TKX Five-speed transmission, McLeod Fly-wheel, clutch, pressure plate and hydraulic throw-out bearing, along with a custom made “Dennys” drive shaft were installed in November 2022. To facilitate easy install and access, MDL’s removable cross-member was added as well. Total parts cost for this package was in excess of $6500.
This car as built is one of 427 out of 27,720. It was a 900 code black coupe. Other factory options included F/41 suspension, power windows, AM/FM radio, tinted windshield, and four way flashers.
This car is now equipped w/power rack front steering also factory GM sidepipes. All redone Corvette Brake Products, caliper internals, brake lines, and 17 Billet Specialties Street Lites in Black with three blade spinners on BF Goodrich Advantage sport 225-235-60-17
All documentation and receipts from 1974- present will be provided to the buyer as well as many original parts. A recently completed appraisal is also available upon request to view.
