Check out this beautifully restored 1957 Ford Ranchero Custom Pickup—an eye-catching blend of vintage style and practical utility that turns heads wherever it goes. Although the Ranchero feels like a true American original, its roots trace back to Australia’s 1934 Ford “Ute,” inspired by a farmer’s wife who wanted a vehicle that could serve both for Sunday church and hauling livestock on Monday.
Fast forward to 1957, Ford introduced the Ranchero in the U.S. to compete with Chevrolet’s upscale Cameo pickup. Marketed as “a new idea in motor vehicles,” it combined the comfort and styling of a car with the functionality of a truck, built on the Ranch Wagon platform with a pickup bed at the rear. The result was a stylish, versatile ride that set a new trend, later echoed by rivals like the Chevy El Camino and Dodge Sweptside.
This particular example is the sought-after “Custom Pickup” (66B Code), the more stylish of the two Ranchero models available in 1957. It’s powered by a 292 cubic inch V8 paired with a 2-barrel carburetor, rated at 212 horsepower when new, and mated to an automatic transmission for easy cruising. Dual exhaust gives it a throaty growl, while upgraded power brakes and a dual master cylinder add safety and confidence on the road.
Finished in its factory-correct two-tone Flame Red and Colonial White, the exterior shines with excellent chrome and brightwork, dual chrome mirrors, and vintage-style spotlights. A Continental Kit on the rear adds 1950s flair, and wide whitewall tires with full wheel covers complete the classic look.
The steel bed is in pristine condition, looking barely used, and the interior is just as impressive. It features a reupholstered bench seat in Colonial White vinyl with Flame Red pleated inserts, matching two-tone door panels, red carpet, and a color-keyed dash. The dashboard includes a 120 MPH speedometer, fuel and temp gauges, a retro-style AM/FM/Cassette stereo, and a clock.
If you’re looking to start or add to a classic Ford collection—or just want a standout weekend cruiser—this 1957 Ranchero Custom Pickup is a sharp, rare, and stylish choice.
