With relatively low production, 1950 Hudsons are pretty rare automobiles, and perhaps the rarest was the Commodore Eight Convertible Brougham. In total, a mere 424 Convertible Broughams were produced during the 1950 model year, which makes this particular Hudson an even rarer car to find today. This particular Hudson Commodore 8 comes to us from several southern-based collectors, all of whom appeared to take great care of this wonderful car.
Under the hood of this ’50 Hudson Commodore 8 is a 254 cubic inch inline 8-cylinder engine fed by a single 2-barrel carburetor that together were said to have created 128 horsepower when new. The 254 Straight 8 is mated to a 3-speed manual transmission with “Super-Matic” overdrive that is shifted via its column-mounted “3-on-the-tree” shifter, making it a wonderful convertible for extended cruises. Exhaust exits this Hudson’s powerplant via a single exhaust system and out through a chrome-tipped tailpipe.
This Commodore 8 Convertible comes loaded with options! The black canvas power convertible top raises and lowers effortlessly as it’s controlled by a dash-mounted switch. Additionally, when the top is in the down position, it tucks neatly under a red boot that gives this Hudson a much cleaner look while enjoying the benefits of having a convertible. Dual chrome outside mirrors are a welcome addition to any classic car, as they make squeezing in and out of a tight parking space far less stressful. A color-matched external sun visor adds further 50s flair to this unique Convertible Brougham.
Riding on a set of wide whitewall tires mounted on red-painted steel wheels accented with full wheel covers, this 1950 Hudson Convertible Brougham has a fantastic elevated look whether you’re parked at the local car show or cruising with the top down on a warm and sunny day. Additionally, the rear wheels are tucked behind a pair of color-matched fender skirts that add even more 50s flair. This Hudson’s body has been refinished in beautiful Laguna Blue paint that completes the exterior look of this top-of-the-line automobile.
The roomy interior of this 1950 Hudson Custom Commodore Eight Convertible Brougham is absolutely stunning! The front and rear bench seats, along with the rear center folding armrest, have been reupholstered in gorgeous red leather, so whether you’re sitting up front or getting chauffeured around in the back, you’re sure to be very comfy. The woodgrain-trimmed upholstered door panels, red carpeting, Hudson-emblazoned steering wheel, and woodgrain-trimmed dash all remain in wonderful condition and retain a superb stock appearance.
The interior is also extremely well-optioned! All four power windows go up and down with ease, all of which are hydraulic-driven and controlled with electric switches. Additionally, you can easily adjust the front seat as it is also powered by the hydraulic system. The instrument cluster is brightly trimmed and comes equipped with a 110 MPH speedometer, temperature gauge, and fuel gauge, along with indicator lights for amperage and oil pressure. The dash is finished off with a push-button AM radio, clock, glovebox, and various other controls.
Whether you’re an avid Hudson collector or you want your first classic car to be something rarely seen, this 1950 Hudson Custom Commodore Eight Convertible Brougham would make a fantastic choice.

Beautiful car. Why does the trunk wear a badge that says Automatic Drive when it is a manual transmission?
in the description it reads “3 speed manual transmission with “Super-Matic” overdrive that is shifted via its column-mounted “3-on-the-tree” shifter”
