A true piece of custom car history! This 1950 coupe was a standout in the fifties and sixties, featured in magazines like Rod Builder & Customizer, Custom Cars, Rod & Custom, and Car Craft—often appearing in multiple issues. It also graced the pages of car club magazines and newsletters such as Swanx of Vallejo, Motorcade, and The Wheeler of Northern California.
A consistent winner on the show circuit, this car was entered into prestigious events like The Road Run, the Autorama, National Roadster Show, The Napa Valley Rod & Custom Show, Custom, Rod & Sports Car Show, and the Rose Festival Auto Show. Custom car legend George Barris even praised elements of its design while explaining what it takes to win a competition.
Originally built and owned by Dick McArdle, this one-family custom has always remained in California and Nevada.
The car features a spliced-in 1949 Mercury grille shell, a full 1951 Oldsmobile front bumper and grille bar, and 1956 Plymouth Fury side trim. The lower rear panel houses neatly tunneled 1949 Ford taillight lenses, and partitioned exhaust tips are integrated into the bumper. The rear fenders incorporate scoops, trimmed with chromed bars from a 1953 Mercury.
Powered by a 216ci inline-six with a manual transmission, this custom-built classic is a true survivor from the golden era of hot rods and custom cars.
