The 1948 Jeepster was designed by Brook Steens and was manufactured from 1948 through 1950. A total of less than 20,000 were manufactured. The Jeepster included numerous deluxe features and interior fittings in addition to a high level of standard equipment that cost extra on other automobiles. These included, among many others, whitewall tires, hubcaps with bright trim rings, sun visors, deluxe steering wheel, wind wings, locking glovebox, cigar lighter, and continental tire. The Jeepster had Willys’ World War II-proven 134.2 cu in (2.2 L) straight-4 “”Go Devil”” engine, and plastic side curtains. Its distinctive boxy styling and performance were praised by automotive journalists The Jeepster’s I-4 engine was rated at 63 hp (47 kW; 64 PS) and coupled to a Borg-Warner T-96 3-speed manual transmission with an overdrive unit as standard. The Planadyne single transverse leaf spring independent front suspension, entire drivetrain, front end, rear suspension, steering, and four-wheel drum brakes were from the Willys Station Wagon. The flat-topped rear fenders were taken from the Jeep truck line.

The current owner purchased this 1948 Jeepster in early 2019. He sent it directly to a stable in Glen Carbon, IL and spent over $20,000 having the car gone through to make it road worthy and reliable. The repair list was substantial, with complete invoice attached 12/R steering box and shaft, steering wheel and fix horn assembly, R/R door catch, fix shift linkage, adjust hand brake cable, install new windshield and numerous other items.

Additional repairs fix overdrive, turn signals, rebuild rear end. With new axle bearings and carrier bearings and brakes, new hoses and fuel lines, new steering wheel and horn on 9/2023 the Jeepster went back for repair of the fuel gauge, spark plug ends, new distributer rotor and tune up. He drove this car on a weekly basis and wanted it tight and dependable! Additional $28,000.00 was spent in doing so.

The Jeep’s Tunisian Red exterior is in overall great condition. Its bodywork is straight and solid. The cargo area is in good order and the Chrome bumpers fit tightly to the body. The Window Curtain are in excellent condition and the optional storage holder for them are included. Overall a very nice Jeepster with minor flaws from age.

This Jeepster has 5 perfect hubcaps and chrome trim rings. All the gauges work perfectly as does the overdrive. Tires are in very good condition and spare is covered by the very rare rear wheel metal tire cover option. It starts quickly and drives and handles like new.

Under the hood is a L-134 CID “Go Devil” four-cylinder engine.

Inside the Red interior, including the split seats and rear bench. A new white steering wheel presents a nice contrast to the exterior color. The red, metal dashboard looks great and a 3 on the tree shifter completes the interior. The red paint has a slight metallic fleck to it.
