The 362,841 Jeeps produced during WWII cemented Willys as a household name, but for gearheads of a certain era, the Willys legacy also includes the legendary gassers of the late 1950s and early 1960s. This wicked, all-steel 1940 Willys street rod pays tribute to that high-octane history while delivering modern performance and style.
Under its distinctively shaped hood lies a powerful 392 Hemi, upgraded with a Street Demon carburetor, Hot Heads aluminum intake manifold, long tube headers, MSD ignition, and an aluminum radiator. It’s backed by a 700R4 automatic transmission with overdrive and a 3500 RPM stall converter.
Built for both show and go, this Willys features a Mustang II-style independent front suspension, a 4-link rear setup with a Ford 9” differential and 4.10 Posi, power rack-and-pinion steering, and 4-wheel disc brakes. Vintage Air A/C keeps the cabin cool, while a 9-point roll cage and Ron Francis wiring kit add to its performance credentials. The interior is fully customized, and the “big-n-little” American Racing alloy wheels (165/80R15 front, 31×10.50R15 rear) complete the classic stance.
Adding to its unique appeal, ghost flames accent the hood and dash, and “Big Daddy” Don Garlits’ signature graces the glovebox. All-steel 1940 Willys coupes are rare, and even fewer are built to this level—this one is as cool as they come!
