The 1998-2002 Trans Am marked the end of an era for Pontiac, and they chose to bid farewell to the Firebird with impressive performance and bold styling. The 2002 Trans Am Collector’s Edition was limited to just 2,400 units, evenly divided between coupes and convertibles. Approximately 60 percent of these Collector’s Edition cars were equipped with 6-speed manuals, like this one, making it one of about 720 six-speed coupes produced.
All Collector’s Edition Trans Ams were finished in bright yellow with black wheels, black roofs, black interiors featuring embroidered headrests, and came fully loaded with all available options. Under the hood lies the GM LS1 5.7L V-8, which produced 320hp in stock form with the WS6 Ram Air package. However, this Collector’s Edition is far from stock.
This Trans Am may appear as a respectable Dr. Jekyll, but once you turn the key, it transforms into a ferocious Mr. Hyde with a thunderous exhaust note that can be heard from miles away. This beastly Bird is equipped with Texas Speed and Performance PRC-225 aluminum cathedral cylinder heads, a Texas Speed MS4 Magic Stick camshaft, a FAST composite intake with a 92mm throttle body, 42lb injectors, a Walbro fuel pump, and underdrive pulleys. The exhaust system includes Texas Speed 1 7/8 long tube headers, a Texas Speed off-road y-pipe, and a Corsa cat-back system.
The result is loud and proud performance in any gear and at any RPM. The intoxicating sound from the twin tailpipes begs for more throttle, promising a thrilling ride that will tempt you to make questionable decisions, all while having the time of your life. These decisions are executed through a six-speed manual transmission with a McLeod twin-disc clutch that can handle abuse, a Corvette Z06 slave with a remote mount bleeder, and a professionally built 10-bolt rear axle with 4.10 gears and welded axle tubes.
To ensure stability during high-performance driving, this Trans Am is equipped with a full complement of BMR chassis upgrades, including 3-point subframe connectors, a torque arm, and an adjustable panhard bar. Up front, the enhancements continue with BMR lower control arms with relocation brackets, poly bushings, BMR lowering springs, and KONI Yellow adjustable shock absorbers all around.
This 2002 Trans Am Collector’s Edition is a true tribute to the end of the Firebird lineage, offering an exhilarating blend of performance, style, and driving excitement.
